yeah gap has to be set with a buisness card or what i like a dollar bill, and check the crank's key, may be sheared. may be, but have you tried other plugs? check with the plug out?

ive tried 2 plugs the crank key is good but can cam timing where the gears line up effect spark or not because i advanced it 1 tooth it also have a bigger crank by bigger i mean the journal is bigger so its a stroker motor the hea i machined for clearence wat else could my problem o no spark be

well timing would be off the crank, umm, have you checked spark of the coil on another motor if you have one, could be you have all bad coils. its happened alot before, having bad coils. or you have a wire shorting to something

The gap on the points should be 0.020", but set it to 0.018" and you will get a better spark and a better running engine. Also, like bugman said, use a dollar bill to gap the coil to the flywheel...this will also make the spark stronger.

wellthe cam timing was off and i redid the ignition by regapping the points and putting on a working condenser but still no spark any other possibilities

hmm, has points, why not rid yourself of that and get rid of the points system

dont know what series your engine is, but most early tecs cant be changed to electronic. the tapering on the points style crankshaft is different from the electronic one, and the top of the motor does not have the mounting holes from the factory for electronic coil. am going through the same thing now with an 8hp. i hooked wire up wrong, and mine backfired without key being on, and burnt points and condensor up. i replaced them, but i now cant get any spark. i had another 8hp electronic, and i thought i would change. after pulling flywheels on both, i found that electronic will not bolt up. maybe someone has another idea.

ok i fixed it it was the camshaft i put the original back in and it now has spark but it will not run im thinking because the crank makes the piston go up about 1/4 in over normal so i put 2 head gaskets im thinking i either need to grind out the head or is there a longer plug i could use also it will not start with gtas poured in carb eitherr also it is harder to pull than a normal motor is this due to higher compression or rings nmot seating yet

yeah you can always get a longer plug or shorter plug, have you played with the screws to try and get it going, it may be flooding

i had a tank hooked up toit and it wouldntstart so i tried dumping a lilin the carb to prime it and nothing also once the plug is in it becomes pretty hard to pull harder than usual is his due to high compression but once the plug is out its normal

have you tried different plugs, if they get wet they won't spark right.

i couldnt fiind a longer plug but my boss <small engine repair> said it could be the head gaskets leaking so i have another head im gonna grind out to fit
