have an old tecumseh 8hp with points. numbers on it are 143-286442, then an 81-081. problem is, i wasnt getting any fire, so i took flywheel off and regapped points and cleaned up mag. question is, there is no wire coming from this setup for charging. only wires are the condensor wire to the points, then from this block to the kill block on side by starter. no other wires, and no trace of ever being one. another question, wired new switch (old wireing was shot) B post to large post on solenoid, S post to small post on solenoid to energize. which wire goes to kill block?, and where does M post wire go to since there is no charging wires. Does solenoid ground through base, or do I need to hook G post to ground. wired it up this way, and as long as switch was in the start position engine would fire and try to run, but when key was let up to run position, it would immediately shut off. hooked ground wire to kill block, and as soon as i touched it to block, engine backfired without key being on, and now no fire. did i blow points or condensor? when it was fireing, spark was bright blue. I told you i was new to tecumseh engines. these are not even close to wireing B&S engines.

hmm you may have fried the coil, just a slight chance you did, when it comes to tec though, i'm not much on em either. but it may not have a alternator under the flywheel. but umm well you just may have fried it or something else. hmm can't help much more though since i'm not much on wiring one without one being right in front of me.
