I am hoping someone can help with Briggs & Stratton 5 HP I/C Engine.
It is on the old mini bike that I just bought.
Model is 131232 Type is 0137

It had a bad gasket between the Carb and gas tank, so I got one today and replaced it.

The Engine runs but seems to need choke even after being warmed up.
At full trottle it is fine until you back off throttle and then try to apply throttle again at which point it wants to stall and usually does.

Then it will start right back up with choke on, then take choke off and again it will throttle up ok until you let off.

It uses a direct draw from gas tank, so there is no float bowl, etc.

I pulled the diaphram off the side and the gasket seems fine, no tears, and everything is super clean inside.

Here is a link to an exploded view of carb assembly.
It is shown on page 5 of the PDF file.

Any help is appreciated.

yeah i own one of those, bitches to start and if the diaprahm looked good but ran bad it was the diaprahm. try a new diaprahm to make sure. they are not that much to buy and most of the time that ends up being the problem.

Will do, thanks much!

I am also going to try another gas cap. I pulled one from a dead lawnmower that I Have for parts last night and right after that, the motor started on first pull with just the choke. Before that change, I had to use Carb Cleaner to get it to fire when cold.
I am thinking that old cap may be clogged enough that is is not venting enough.

It was too late to road test it last night, I will try that later today.

Thanks,
Keith

oh yeah i forgot about the cap, most of them were shipped off with ventless caps. try one that vents as well. but might as well try a diaprahm too since well they are basically cheap and sometimes solves the problem
