Hello eveyone, I am new to this site and is my first post. I have been reading a lot of posting dealing with Tecumseh engines. I to also have an h70 that will not start. When i try to pull it over it kicks back so bad that it will rip the cord from my hands. The last time i tryed starting it, i broke the pull cord. I have checked for spark and seems to be fine. i also pull the carb off and cleaned it up. I am going to check the points and condenser. I think this may be a timing problem, Possibly a sheared flywheel key. It would be great if someone could shed some light on the sitution. This engine is mounted on a 1969 wheelhores trailblazer snowblower. Does anyone have a parts listing with a picture Breakdown for the machine itself?, not the engine. I've serched on toro's site and they don't have one. This machine was just givin to me for nothing, but needs some work. I think there is pieces missing or broke off which would hinder the operation of it. Well sorry for the book but if any one could help me with this, that would be great. thank you

well yeah, it could be a sheared key, just enough to cause it to basically start backwards and kick, kinda. try checking it with the plug out hooked to the plug wire itself not grounded to anything metal and crank it over and watch for spark. hard to tell when they do that because i've seen wierd stuff cause it, isn't anything missing off the carb is it? or rather anything important?

Thanks for the reply. Yes i have pull the plug out and checked for spark that way, spark seemed fine. I don't belive there are any parts missing from the carb.

hmm, it could be off timing a little. gets gas right?

I belive so. I have use a sqirt bottle fill with gas sprayed into the carb as some one was pulling over and still nothing. i Haven't pulled the head off yet. i think it could also be a sticky valve mabye.

hmmm, yeah, umm well about how much use does the engine have on it? and well has it been setting for a good while. if so then the carb may very well need a good cleaner bath and rebuild. and you may have a sticky valve or a valve thats not closing all the way. doesn't seem to be getting too much gas does it?

Yes, from what i was told it sat for a over a year. I had pulled the carb off and pulled it apart and cleaned it. I didn't put a rebuild kit in at that time. I think it needs a kit though. As for how much hours are on this machine, who knows. I not sure if its getting to much gas, when i pulled the plugs they were not that wet.

I really need a parts breakdown because there are parts broke i have know idea what it is. it make it tough to order new parts. Do you have any idea where i can get this?

all i can tell you is try little hardware stores for maybe little kits like ace hardware, of go to a small engine shop, they can order pretty much hard to find stuff. well for over a year, yeah the carb needs a rebuild and a good overnight full soak in cleaner. umm try smelling of the oil, does the oil smell like gas??? you just may have a bad float in it and its passing too much gas to start. if the oil smells like gas, drain the gas and well of course the oil and let it drain good. then well rebuild the carb, and to check the float if its sinking, take it off and shake it, it should not slosh inside. just a idea if its getting too much gas. that or what you say is broken?? may be the culprit
