Well we haven't even run race number 1 of this years series but that's not reason enough to not start talking about number two.

This is the place to ask your questions about the track, The facility, The people, The directions on so on.

Hobby worlds track is nearing it's twentieth year(5 with asphalt) in existance which surely puts it at one of the oldest facilities still currently in operation in Florida if not the nation.

It's a big fast low banked asphalt oval with only one bump to worry about. Did I mention that it's big?

For those of you that ran this years Speedway spectacular, The HW track is about 30 to 40 feet longer in drive line than the speedway track so gear accordingly.

There is plenty of electricity for the normal turnout of racers but due to the expected number for the series race I would recommend you bring a generator just in case.

Parking is not a problem unless we really get hit with a bad rain just prior to the race date.

There is a McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, and Dairy Queen and others restaurants all within short walking distance. The Dairy Queen is actually next to the driveway.

For those so inclined to use mapquest or maptuit the address is 7273 103rd st Jacksonville Fl.

The normal racing program is every friday night except when we run the 3rd saturday night of the month if anyone wants to sneek up for some prerace practice. We wont tell,

See y'all soon

To the top we go as the other posters are to slow.? Maybe this thread should also be moved to the Oval events section since it will be just that. An oval event like no other since HW was paved, If even half of the FOCARS racers show up for this one it'll go down as the fastest race to date on the old track.

I remember when if you ran 19 laps with 6 cells you were Da'man. We even kept track of who turned 20 then 21. To turn 22 laps was the holy grail to many now look. Now thanks to the asphalt and with 4 cells and 19t motors we're knocking on 38. We even had to run three minute modified races back then because our batteries just would'nt hack the amps our hot 14 turn:rolleyes: motors were pulling.

To put that in perspective in order to turn a 19 lap run you had to average 12.63 seconds a lap. Boy even at that snails pace we thought we were cruising. Now 6.6's are middle of the pack for 19t and a 6.3 is considered fast.

Man O man how times have changed. And unlike the popular country song, I dont miss the way things were back when. What is a fizz and a pepper anyway? (I know its peanuts in the Dr Pepper bottle at 10:00 2:00 and 4:00 dummy, Its in the song too)

I thought there was touring oval? Is that the same as sedan oval? Do you remember how many heats? Thanks

Sedan and touring oval is the same class just different names. It is a 4wd touring car with the purple ultrabird 19t motor 6 cells and a Nascar(tm) body without the rear end cut out and with only a spoiler up to 2 inches I believe. No add on wings allowed and new for this year since all the races are outdoors on asphalt it's rubber tires only no foams.

All the races I went to last year were three qualifying heats with a re-sort after the second round then the mains.

03-27-2005, 09:21 PM
Ok,
Question- if all the races this year are outside and with all the classes, is the program still going to be 3 heats and then the main, or 2 heats and a main? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Henry, As long as the racers cooperate with the race director there should be no reason that the races cannot still consist of three heats and a main. Last years races were run with a pretty tight schedule and with only small deviances from the schedule went off pretty smoothly. I think that with minimal breaks if any between the rounds and only enough time to set the mains and allow for everyone to get a pack charged which they should be doing as soon as their last qualifier pack is finished there should be no problems. Its doubtful that all classes will be run at all tracks so time will take care of itself.

Also the races are starting before noon at most tracks so time will be there for any delays.

With less than a week to go till the official start of the 05 FOCARS season the outlook for spectacular happenings is good. I stopped by Hobby World today and the place is looking great. The grass has been cut and the weeds whacked, The walls repainted and some errant pipes relocated. There will be no faster speeds turned at any track on the schedule this year so I hope everyone is ready for what the monster has in store. The monster bites and when it does cars and ego's break.

One caution to the unknowing. Stay off of the yellow line. It is not your friend and it's sole purpose is to let you know that only inches away is a wall that eats cars for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Be forewarned. The place is big and fast.

Show up with the best you have or sit by and watch everyone else who did.

Saturday May the 7th is the date to be there and if you miss it you'll wish you hadn't.

Seems fitting that the first race will be a tight almost bullring of a track then less than a month later the largest track on the schedule will host what will surely bring out the racer in all of us. If high speeds and a big track are what your'e looking for then Jacksonville Fl on May the 7th is what you need.

Be there or wish you had been. It's your call.

hey dave running at TQ today i was thinking about hobby world. TQ is not as small as i once thought. and...the racing lanes are wide maybe 20 feet. but we all want to be 2 inches off the inside pipe? i realy had fun running on the short track today..it brought back CPT and the church tracks and race rock and MTR park. i think the MTR boys will have a small advantage on us? time will tell good news dave the 05 was rolling damn nice at TQ today. TQ hobbies is also ordering up some tangerine tack for us. wooooooooooooooooooooooo hoooooooooooooo woooooooooooo hooooooo hoooooo

Ok everyone. The first FOCARS race of the 2005 seson is now in the books and the focus is now on the next few. Jacksonville is next on the hit list.

The 1st race had 50(fifty) entries even with a few notable no shows.

After the short track action of TQ hobbies we're now moving on to the largest, dare I say fastest? track on the schedule.

Looonnngg straights with wide sweeping low banked turns ensure that everyone has their own little two square feet of track to defend. Somehow I'm pretty sure more than one car at a time will try to occupy that same space.

After seeing the humbling electric supply at TQ I have to mention that Hobby World has a limited amount of outlets so everyone please bring a generator and long cords if you own them and treat the permanant track as a temporary one in that respect. There is sufficient power for the normal race program but somehow I think we may easily double the number that usually races here so please come prepared.

Parking should not be a problem at all unless there is a whole lotta the "R" word leading up to the race weekend.

The drivers stand? Tall, Wide and long with a handicapped ramp and area on the front. There should be no problem fitting ten of the most robust racers on this one.

As the next three weeks(Wow, racing again so soon?)go by if anyone has any questions at all about the upcoming race feel free to ask here and someone will try to get you an answer.

ok fellas race # 1 is in the books!

let's concentrate on information for racers coming from out of town.

i will need some hotel info:

plenty of room for trailers and ez up tents!

tons of food within walking distance!

FRIDAY NIGHT THERE WILL BE A WARM UP RACE!!!!!
REGULAR STARTING TIMES AS EVERY OTHER FRIDAY NIGHT!

THERE WILL BE A TOURING OVAL :OUTLAW CLASS" this class is 6 cells and motor brushless or 3 turns it doesn't matter.any body 4 minutes may the fastest car win! this class has a 15.00 entry they do not run for points just bragging rights and a plaque of course!

WE ARE ALSO GOING TO TRY AND SQUEEZE IN A INSANE SPEED RUN!!!!! FASTEST 1 MINUTE RUN!!!!!!!!! THIS CLASS HAS NO RULES! WELL EXCEPT TO JUST GO FAST AND TURN LEFT! NO GAS CARS PLEASE. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

ARE YOU READY????????????

ARE YOU READY????????????

1. I'm on vacation this week so I'll try to get a little hotel/motel info up asap. the best bet is to try the ones 4 miles south on I-295 exit #12 Blanding blvd(sr-21) I'll see what I can find.

2. Stock rollouts are approximately 2.00 and up with monster based motors depending on the rpm of the motor.

19t rollout with the ultrabirds? 24 degrees, I've pulled as high as a 3.31 and on that night I think I needed another tooth or two added.

36 degrees, start about at 2.70

12th scale ? One of the local hot shoes can chime in here as the class has been run a time or three lately.

3. Regular friday night racing is . Sign ups at 7:00 and racing at 8:00 until ?

Touring/sedan oval hasnt been run yet so no one will have a home track advantage in this class. There's been some talk of it but no one has tried it yet.

Oh boy! An insane speed run brings back memories of the whip. I'd be suprised if many cars could make an entire minute since a little touch of the inside pipe at that speed in the corners sends the car directly to the outside wall before the driver(been there, done that)has time to react. Plywood walls go POW! and cars go crunch. I've seen cars go through the half inch wood wall. Maybe just a fastest lap/mph format would be better.

The fastest car ever timed by stopwatch was a couple of months ago when Jeff Keeton ran an 1/8th scale nitro onroad car to an unofficial fast lap of 5.9. The next lap it went over the wall and wasnt run again that day. I have run several hot laps with both a 4 cell and 6 cell setup with a couple of very mild by todays standards old mod motors, They were'nt on the clock but it took no time to get around the track. Witness's said it looked scary fast. The 6 cell one was. The 4cell was only slightly faster than the regular 19t cars but I had it geared for four minutes not several laps.

Maybe we should also have in addition to the "Dark cloud" award the "Crumpled heap" award for the car with the most severe damage.

congratulations to the winners

stock: Tim koivu
pro stock: David puliafico
nastruck: Jim cukla
touring oval russell smith
12th scale mike bean
19 turn rich boehmler

great job fellas every class but 12th scale had a new winner!!! nice!

look for race # 2 info this week! a few surprises for the monster track. "outlaw touring car" and a insane "speed run"

there were not enough hot rod cars or break out cars to make a class after race # 3 these classes will be removed due to lack of support and I will insert outlaw touring into the program for the remainder of the year.

outlaw touring car: any body any wing or spoiler 6 cells 3300 GP only 4 wheel drive must be engaged any roar legal modified motor no Max or min number of turns.

insane speed run: up to 6 cells any electric motor brushless or otherwise. any body 10th scale pan cars only please. no nitro cars. you will be on the clock for one minute fastest 1 minute run takes it! 5.00 entry and a nice plaque to the winner. and a years worth of bragging rights,priceless....thank you all william sell______________________________________________ ____________________

remember fellas if you do not plan on running for points you do not have to join focars...it is the best 10.00 you will ever spend but it is not mandatory for a racer who is going to run less than the 4 required races.

25.00 first class
15.00 every class after
5.00 for the insane speed run 1 minute on the clock.........

if the local spec boys would like to run on saturday i see no reason why we couldn't have a class for them? 15.00 entry fee plaques 1st -3rd this would not be for points just bragging rights.

give me an idea on how many spec cars might show up so i can get the plaques ready.

insane speed run winner will get a engraved cup with his or her name ..date and track name.

also don't forget to enter that body in concourse..... something for everyone me thinks?

this will be one of the best group of racers since the speedway race..it should be awesome! will tom pedano run away and hide again?

may 7th racing at noon see you all there! woooooooooooooooooooooo

As for food:
Across the street from the shop, there's: Burger King,KFC,Dunkin' Donuts

On the same side of the street as the shop within short walking distance, there's: Dairy Queen (dogs & ice cream only-can't trust those kids with hot grease!LOL),McDonald's,Taco Bell,Lil Champ (gas, smokes, beer, crying towels, etc),Express Pizza (official pizza/wings of HW. But when you get that much talent in one place I'm sure that everyone will be on the same lap in the A's Unless "The Big One" happens-and it does happen here. If the field uses their heads & drive smart like the A-Mains last Saturday,we'll be in for a hella show! Also, cars catching air & flying off the track-been done before, too. I think Dan "BigDog" McClinton has the record for altitude (6ft off the ground after his dead car was hit in Turn 2). He may also have the hang-time record, too. Good thing there's a chain-link fence around the turns! lol
It may be a good suggestion for those that haven't raced here before to attend (race or watch/spy) the Friday night race in order to get a feel for the track. What you learn Friday might just save your car/a$$ Saturday! lol
