View Full Version : Al Unser Car Case by Topper?
Dude502 03-24-2005, 06:31 AM Can anyone identify this? Year it came out, value, what it was actually call'd or anythin' like that? As far as it's shape, it's in really good shape, I jus' need to get all the dust offa it. The best I can tell is it's missin' one 'o the side tampo's, shown in pic, but other than that it look's really good. I've 'ad it since I was a kid, play'd with it an carry'd car's in it.
All I could find for markin' was...
Topper Corp. Cat. # 4025 made in Elizabeth New Jersey
The car top 'as the #'s 4025 - A407 1 - A - 1
The car bottom 'as the #'s 4025 - 400 1 - A - 1
The seat section 'as the #'s 4025 - B410 1 - B - 1
Anythin' I could find out would be groovy.

POCKETWOCKET 03-24-2005, 10:30 AM have seen a few on e_bay in the past several years going for about 20.00-40.00 depending on the condition....from the pics, i'd say you will probably get about 35.00....just my observations, hope this helps....
robmcin 03-24-2005, 11:41 AM Robdog could tell you better for an exact price... you are also missing the stickers on the top - pretty nice though!!
moparmarc 03-24-2005, 04:01 PM ya the Trophy cases are cool. Mint ones are where the $$ at.

If you get 35 for it, you did pretty good.
Yours would be a cool case to carry around at shows with loose cars to sell or trade.
Dude502 03-24-2005, 05:45 PM Hey tank's guy's. Any idea 'o the year it was made? At least now I know what it was call'd an who made it.
POCKETWOCKET 03-24-2005, 05:54 PM since i can see a twin blaster in the picture, i would hazard a guess at 1971....
Dude502 03-24-2005, 06:20 PM Hey tank's.
This goes as a nice addition to mine daughter's on goin' Hot Wheel's collection an a few various car's as well as the not to beat up loose Hot Wheel's I 'ad as a kid.
jlightning 03-28-2005, 02:02 PM The #2 Trophy case was 1970. The #1 version (more rare) was 1971.
If you want a list of all Topper Johnny Lightning items and year produced you can go to this link on my webpage. It makes a good checklist for your Topper items so you know what to look for, and what is out there......

Dude502 03-28-2005, 02:41 PM How do you tell between #1 an #2?
jlightning 03-29-2005, 01:17 PM The sticker is the only difference that I am aware of. There may be something else, maybe I should compare mine a little closer to see if there are possible stamping differences in the plastic.
Dude502 03-30-2005, 04:48 AM Right on, it would be kinda neat to know which year the one I've got is.
billypea 03-30-2005, 03:42 PM Very cool case!
jlightning 03-31-2005, 01:20 PM Right on, it would be kinda neat to know which year the one I've got is.
That is easy. Yours has the #2 on the side so it is the 1970 release.
moparmarc 03-31-2005, 03:24 PM Nice Check list JL, I want to also do that on one of my sites in the future but Have many Pictures for each.
Dude502 03-31-2005, 04:05 PM Tank's. 'ell, it's older than I am then. :)
ParkRNDL 04-03-2005, 07:16 PM Hey jlightning, I think this was made in 1971...
ParkRNDL 04-03-2005, 08:58 PM Hey now that I look at it, Dude, check out the bottom of that set box... it has your Al Unser case on it...

Dude502 04-03-2005, 09:14 PM That's pretty cool. I can jus' imagine that it didn't cost all that much when I got it as a kid.
jlightning 04-04-2005, 06:18 PM Hey jlightning, I think this was made in 1971...
Al Unser drove the #2 Johnny Lightning Special in 1970 and the #1 Johnny Lightning Special in 1971. The cases were made to match the cars that were raced that year..... I'm not sure if you were implying that the #2 was made in 1971, but I'm sure there were #2 Johnny's in the store early '71 (leftover from the previous year). Just a guess since I sure don't remember specifics when I was just 8 or 9 years old at that time.
Dude502 04-04-2005, 06:31 PM I'm really glad I found this forum. I get so many question's answer'd in all the diff section's 'round 'ere.

Nah, I just thought I remembered seeing on a toy web site somewhere that the Big Switch sets were made in 1971 just before Topper tanked. I actually just barely know who Al Unser is... had no idea what number cars he drove till I learned it here. :D
Edit... hey check THIS out... (Google is my friend)

Hey, that is my website!
ParkRNDL 04-06-2005, 10:11 PM Heh heh heh. Duh, I never put that together.... your screen name and the site address. I was actually googling for another site that listed the tracks Topper did by year... according to this site, there were several in 1971, including 2 or 3 Big Switch sets.

Hi all, I'm new to the forums. I'm helping my mom sell a bunch of things and I have two of these, both mint, new in box (with all stickers). The ones I have are both #1. In the post above you note that the one the OP has are worth about $35; what would a NIB #1 sell for on eBay? I can't find any recent sales and don't know what to target this one for.
Thanks!
