if there was a indoor dirt oval in the albany area would people want to race it in the summer months?
there is the possibility of this comming around this year but to put the money out for the building i would have to know how serious people would be about racing it year round just a question for people to chime in on

I'd race if they held them on weekends. Can't during week nights. Dirt oval sounds fun!! I've never really tried it.

Lennox.........spill.......the........beans! :)
Would this be just a track or a hobby shop also?
I think someone could make a pile of money if there was a facility like Walts Hobby or R/C Madness around....indoor carpet and indoor clay oval....fully stocked up on kits and parts. Madness races like 5 days a week. I'd pay someone to run them though hehe.

Count me in. No more rainouts, lighting issues, bugs, when do you open and where is it? Just an idea, why not make it a club with a yearly membership fee?

You might want to see if one of the local clubs will make a committment to race at your track over the summer. In any event, I hope you are successful in your search for a place and sounds like there is interest for indoor dirt. Please keep us posted on whats happening.

i have been looking for buildings i met with agent today one on railroad ave in alb right off interstate 90 i was wondering what track size is good the building today would have a 35 foot long straights and if the lanes were 10 feet wide there would be a 4 foot wide infield i know that this will be tight but would a short bull ring interest people there would be pit space for 40 people comfortably but you could squeeze 50 the question is is this big enough for people with the price of sqare footage on buildings this is the dilema that is beeing run into usable space against price of obtaing the feet. if somebody knows of space available please feel free to contact me i am willing to go out and try to make this work.

Hey Chris your singing my dream.

Just for comparrison, my track is 36 X 120, yes the same size as the Rens & GF carpet, which includes 10 foot lanes, and an 8 foot inside radius for the turns. That seems to be about as small as people want to run (assuming 1/10 th sclae cars). You might be able to go a few feet shorter on the straights, say 100 ft overall as I believe thats about the size of the short track at Competition.

Like I say, just for comparrison.

If you need Realator advise let me know, I'm sure I can get us (you) some advie from the better half, as that's her profession.

Chris
Ya know, more I thought about it the more I remembered that although size does matter, bigger is not always better.

Two points to back this up:
One, each year we run the Quad Track Challenge, with one of the tracks being the back-yard Bill Lutes "Bull-Ring". This is a back-yard 80 foot groove track that is absolutely some of the most fun we have all year. No dyno, no mega batteries, or super Hp motors required. Just fine tuning on the chassis and lots of driver & throttle contor (AKA Driving LOL) or the Pine tree in turn one will bite you.

Second, the WDRA just had a race in Watertown NY at an indoor track that looks to be about the same size 80-90 feet and here is a sample of the posts from Dirtoavl.com.
"Had a good time racing at Eagle One. Would like to come back and race at Eagle one again. 125 laps features worked out well. Congradulations to all the winners. I posted all the pictures my wife took at www.rochesterrc.com (http://www.rochesterrc.com/)."

Just thought you'd like the additional input and widening of my previous opinions.

Good Luck !

you mean the old indoor dirt track in Schenectady? That was the smallest track I have ever remebered.

johnqpublic
04-07-2005, 01:22 PM
Rapid Transit was probably about a 90-100 foot run line "paperclip" shaped track on Broadway in Schenectady.

By my count, its been about 13 years since R/T closed its doors for the final time, but that track still holds a special place in the hearts of many people, including myself. Without question, R/T was home to the best dirt oval racers in the capital district for many years. If you wanted to race with the best this was the only place to go!

It was not the greatest neighboorhood or the greatest building...OK, the building was kind of a dump, but there were some great times had in there (which usually involved Dave Peek ripping on someone), and some great food across the street at Broadway Lunch!

My only regret is that I didn't start racing in time to catch the early years of the track. I raced there from '90 to the end in '92. Everytime I drive past that building, I think "thanks for the memories, Rapid Transit".

There was this movie made a while back and someone kept whispering--" If you build it, they will come." Count me and the kid in for dirt. He loves to watch the cars barrell roll down straightaways after slight contact with anything.

As far as RT in Schenectady, never raced there, but it kinda reminded me of the movie "Deliverance" the one nite I ventured in there; no offense intended to anyone, just kinda dark and dirty inside.

We need an indoor dirt track in this area due to the wonderful and unpredictable NE weather. Good luck, Chris and I hope to see this happen as do alot of others.

Hey Rich I'm just wondering if you are actually quoting someone in regards to your apparent BAN, or are you speculating without having talked to Ken. This is the first I've heard of this "BAN." I just spoke to Ken and he told me point blank you nor anyone else has ever been banned from his track. If you chose not to go there because of a little disagreement that happened forever ago it's not a ban but a decision on your part to go elsewhere so you might want to re-think your choice of words the next time you want to say you don't race up there anymore. To quote Ken "You are NOT banned from his track." No one holds any bad feelings toward you.

P.S. If you want to talk about it give Ken a call his phone is always open or if you are not comfortable with that send me a message through here & we'll talk about it.:)

They say build it and they will come .... Bull ring !
I hand built a super clay bull ring and everyone said how much fun it was and what a great track it was , well they don't come, but keep asking me to support their tracks ????
Team21 Speedway remains open from march to oct, for anyone just wanting to have fun. Track has been updated with fish pond and water fall, driver stand, pit bench with electric, and a fence to keep me from hitting a pine tree.
