They are NOT Fest 2004 slot cars, there was only one and it is the Green Chrome Yenko Camaro
Another Mystery solved by Mr. Ragan
sethndaddy 03-22-2005, 10:13 PM Funny,,,,when I got my package from hong kong the other day the guy had those exact stickers in the bag, with a little writing on them..."Free Gift, I hope you will love it".
roadrner 03-22-2005, 11:22 PM Damn,
I knew I should have ordered a bag of those stickers. Didn't think how handy they come to be. ;) rr
AfxToo 03-23-2005, 08:50 AM To think that someone would be swayed by a cheapo little sticker into thinking they've uncovered, on E-Bay no less, 1 of 500 copies of something that never existed is almost laughable. I don't have a high opinion of the made-to-be-rare collectibles in the first place, but when you combine them with the gottahavit collectors virus and mix it up on E-Bay it's almost comical. You may as well just stand back and watch the clownish drama unfold while you're munching on your pototo chips with the image of the virgin mother on them. Geeeeezzzzz.

Hey, that's great Afx! :D
I’ve got to agree with you on this on…It’s been a real howl watching the Chicken littles run around cackling about a “different” variation. The hype was so great it had people on the d-c board believing that they really existed! Then, the lemmings followed and the whole thing took on the “Who-What-Where syndrome. I haven’t laughed this much since I seen the Bowties offered as the Fest cars!
This started on the JL die-cast board and the hype brought it here. I’ve been monitoring it since the start. It was growing like the plague over there. Probably the funniest thing said was this quote-
“Boy, if you are one who tries to keep the complete set of Fest castings, this throws a monkey wrench in everything. The problem with this type of thing is, now anybody can place anything in the box and call it a Fest casting. That's why I always have more than one thing distinctive to each casting and packaging. Just a sticker would never cover us.”
That last line was the kicker—“Just a sticker would never cover us” They can’t see the forest for the trees! Those folks are way more into the Lightning Fest than most here. They showed up real early, signed the form, and received the Fest cars at the very beginning. How could they forget so soon? Maybe pushing a die-cast around the floor gives you brain fade.
We got the distinctive car and logo—the sticker was just that—a sticker.
More so than some of the cars they are looking for—say the ones with just tinted windows or a different colour interior.
I think sometimes the d-c community gets a little over worked and paranoid. Things get a little slow over there and they start massing—looking for anything out of the ordinary.
When all you have to do is sit and stare at a shelf with a bunch of static “lead” sleds sitting on it, I guess you get a little stir crazy.
I really appreciate their concern….. but I still was thinking of maybe introducing the BTTF test shot auction over there and really gettin’ their underwear all balled up.
Cheers..
AfxToo 03-23-2005, 01:56 PM There are some mighty nice folks over there of the diecast board too. The "Quest for the Elusive White" seems to be a very predominant theme that hasn't spilled over into the slot car board. This board is less brand focused, so that helps. But there are still plenty of slot car collectors who fret over the tiniest of details concerning E-Bay sales. I've seen several long email threads about things like whether the foam or cardboard insert in a package is original or whether a particular glass window was tinted at the factory a certain color. Some people just know their stuff and are in tune with the most subtle nuances of the cars they love. Passion or obsession, we're all guilty of these at some level.
boss9 03-23-2005, 02:27 PM I agree with all of that Afx.
I wasn’t meaning it to sound like a die-cast bashing or a diss’ towards the JL boys. I was a regular there first, and that’s how I found this place. I was just pointing out the extremes some will go to when the blatant facts are right in front of them. I’ve been suspicious of the Asian seller and the other thread proves this. I was comparing your take on the auctions and their bidder’s results to the post on the D-C board and the Asian gent in general.
Rob and the mates are a fine and intelligent bunch.
I apologize if I offended anyone poking fun with my post—it was unintentional.
Cheers..
Slott V 03-23-2005, 03:52 PM Anyone ever sit in line at a chain restaurant waiting for the obsessed collectible mom or dad to stop hassling the counter help about the happy meal repeats they just got?
Every group has it's fanatics. :hat:

already did that. some of the diecast regulars were familiar with the Hong Kong seller and had actually bought stuff from him before. Still, a few guys had their:
panties in a bunch
tu-tu in a lump
long johns in a knot
knickers twisted
did i leave anything out?
(disclaimer: this post is not intended to knock the diecast guys either... rather, it's using the opportunity Boss presented as an excuse to post a whole bunch of lame underwear jokes. bear with me, my middle school students have been making me freaking nutzo all week.)
