THE LAST MAN ON EARTH is one of those movies that's existed on various public domain labels for some time. Most are pretty bad. Some are awful. Madacy has a not bad letterboxed version that looks suspicioulsy like it came from a previous Laserdisc release.

However, the version being released as a Midnite Movie is the official MGM version. MGM owns the original source material as part of an old acquisition involving United Artists and American International. The Midnite Movie is a new widescreen anamorphic transfer. It is the FIRST and ONLY transfer enhanced for widescreen TV's.

By all early reviews, the MGM transfer blows the doors off anything previously released.

Also, I only saw one $3.88 dvd listed on amazon and it's sold by company going under the name of "pro-active". I have four of their DVD's which I picked up only because they were going for $2.00 each. They are awful. Though I haven't seen their version of Last Man on Earth, I wouldn't be surprised if it was pan-and-scam...of the four DVDs I own from them, none are in their original aspect ratio.
