Hats over your hearts, please, gentlemen, John Delorean Has died at age 80.
He may or maynot have done all of the unseemly things that he has been accused of, but he was a wonderful auto-designer with vision. He will be missed by many.
Bless him real good, eh?

 John DeLorean has died at age 80. He will always be admired as a person who was brave enough to leave a comfortable position & create a new dream . Like Preston Tucker , He set out on a course that has in some way set us that much ahead. Both had flaws & were not perfect in all their dealings. Even though both failed as far as staying in business, they created a legacy that will last forever. Chevy Cavaliers, & other mediocrities may come & go but the DeLorean like Tucker will be remembered forever. Perhaps like Tucker they will have a movie like the one Jeff Bridges starred in. A Memorial Resincast car is certainly in order !

Wasn't JZD responsible for the concept of full-size motor in a mid-size chassis that became the '64 GTO? And then later, didn't he have something to do with the '69 Grand Prix going from a fullsize to a stretched midsize chassis?

Yep he was responsible for the GTO, in fact the first year they had to be devious nto get it out the door the GTO was simply an add on options package. The brass at Pontiac were mad but the sales figures were so good they soon forgot.

I guess I will hold on to the 82 DMC with 76K miles that is currently in my Dad's barn. Was thinking of selling it after I got the Trans fixed, now I think I will past it on the my oldest Son when he can drive. Let's see, that will only be in 8 years.

I had just finished watching a special on Pontiac a few weeks ago, and I had no idea that Delorean was the reason why I got GTO's. I had always though he was just the guy that made the Back to the Future car. After seeing the show, I decided to look up info on him. Sad to hear he died. Was quite an interesting man.

Some of the things I have read, he had his own little "Skunk Works" operations going on because of the GM management. You could build one heck of a car if you knew the right option codes to put together with the salesman. rr
