This is another article I did for HOWORLD
TCR Mods - Make a Vette fit a G-Plus Chassis

Here I go into more detail on how to mount a Ideal TCR or Matchbox to a G+ chassis. Before actually mounting the body I have to establish its "deck height" in relation to the chassis, wheels & track. The reason I like to use either TOMY G+ or TYCO /Mattel 440-X2 chassis is their extendable wheel bases that enable them to fit the Ideal TCR,Matchbox Speedtrack or Lionel PowerPassers.
Narrow bodies like the Ideal TCR 'vette use the G+ while wider bodies use the 440-X2. Deck height is established using plastruct to support the body so it properly rests on the chassis without interfering with the motor and gears and has a good visual effect so it looks like it was made to fit the chassis. This is important as the body and chassis were not originally designed to work with one another. I also emphasize that once the job is done a "Road Test" on the track is needed to check for obstructions like airdams and bumpers that may have to be trimmed so they will not foul the guardrails or another car. Also widths should be kept to 1 5/16" inches or no wider than Tyco's Porsche' 917. An article on narrowing bodies without destroying their identity will follow later. (note- this I never did, sorry)
Once deck height is established we can actually install the mount. A small plastruct T-section is trimmed so it fits the slot on the G+ chassis. I use a jig I made from a G+ chassis for positioning but one can also"Glue" it temporarily to the chassis with RTV. You then use super glue "Gel" (My favorite) and apply it to the section of the body. Once this is done you have a vehicle that is unique and stand out from the others.
