"The Hollywood trade papers report Thursday morning that it’s a done deal, though no start date has yet been set, and no one has been cast. AICN sources have long maintained that Warner Bros. hopes to have its big-screen "Wonder Woman" in the cinemas by summer 2006.

"Wonder Woman is the most iconic female heroine of our time, but in a way, no one has met her yet," Whedon said in a statement. "What I love most about icons is finding out what's behind them, exploring the price of their power. When ["Wonder Woman" producer Joel Silver] and I began discussing the character, I realized there is a woman behind the legend who is very fascinating, very uncompromising and in her own way almost vulnerable. She's someone who doesn't belong in this world, and since everyone I know feels that way about themselves, the character clicked for me."

For those new to the site, Whedon masterminded "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel" and "Firefly," three of the finest entertainments ever televised. He made his feature directorial debut last summer with "Serenity," the big-screen sequel to "Firefly," which hits movie screens in September. He also co-wrote "Toy Story" and created a really great script called "Alien: Resurrection," which was directed by a guy who didn't speak much English and the movie itself didn't turn out so good."

I just hope he has enough clout to cast Morena Baccarin (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0303461/Ss/0303461/5869100_2_29.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Baccarin,%20Morena)(Inara on FIREFLY) in the lead.

I'd love to know what they consider mediocre.

She's impressive, but oughta do something about her name, I just can't take anybody named Charisma that seriously. Who wants to be calling out "Charisma!" in the heat of the moment.

^Ditto! I mean, have you seen her Playboy spread?

I've always wondered if she has a familiar name that her friends and family call her, like "Carry" or something.

Hey, the whole Princess-Leia-in-a-brass-bikini thing is not bizarre, it's completely normal.

Right?

So long as you're not the one wearing the slave outfit, it's just fine. If it's a gender role reversal thing, tho.....

There's a woman on JAG that looks pretty good. Don't watch the show though.

Casting will make or break it. She has to be a babe and also tough and yet act.

Yeah, I would say that pretty well sums it up. But she will also need a decent script and direction and Whedon has got the goods.

If she's gonna try to fill the big....errr ....shoes left behind by Linda Carter she better be able to jiggle pretty well too.

I used to stay up late and probably watched "Bobby Joe & the Outlaw" about a hundred times in the wee hours of the morning in the early days of HBO. It's a horrible flick even for a Marjoe Gartner movie (And that's saying something!) but Linda had two spectacular scenes....

I may be overly influenced by the Lynda Carter series, but there is one aspect of Wonder Woman I think is very important. The problem I've had with a lot of the names suggested over the years (e.g. Catherine Zeta-Jones) is they often pick actresses who are aggressively sexy. Lynda Carter's WW may have been jaw-droppingly beautiful, but she seemed to be unaware of it. That is why I suggested Morena Baccarin. Her Inara had just the right combination of sexiness and sophistication.

But, hopefully, this won't be anything like the Lynda Carter TV series. I love Lynda too, but the show was about a quarter-inch deep in it's approach. If you're going to do a major motion-picture treatment in 2006 and compete with the likes of "Spider-Man" I and II, and "X-Men" and "Batman Begins", you're going to want to go in a very different direction, with a very different tone than the Lynda Carter TV show. I don't necessarily disagree that Wonder Woman should possess a certain innocence - but if they pick a decent actress then whoever that actress is ought to be able to pull it off. I've never seen Ms. Carpenter's work so I don't know what kind of actress she is. I've suggested Liv Tyler before, I think she has the right qualities - but her physicality has become a bit doughy recently. And she's not that busty - if that particular attribute is of primary importance. I would think a properly designed, gold-plated bustier would compensate. And I hope they go with an Alex Ross style costume.

No question that Lynda Carter was the absolute gold standard. It's interesting to see the comic book artists being interviewed on the documentary with the DVD set of WW season two. As they pointed out, Lynda Carter's portrayal of Wonder Woman required "no transition period"...you saw her on the screen and you immediately accepted her as Wonder Woman.

With regards to casting a movie, well, we all have our own taste so we can keep putting names forward.

I would just add one cautionary note that hasn't been addressed: physical stature. The most perfectly proportioned Wonder Woman lookalike in the world is going to be a tough sell if she turns out to be under 5'8"! You can hire some short actors to surround her...but 6'2" leading men will be out of the question if they are head and shoulders taller than the title character.

[shudder] Marjoe Gortner .... :freak:

I can remember when I was in Catholic grade school, we had to watch a movie about him finding God at a revival meeting. I guess it didn't take too well, by the time I was a teenager he was back to making drek like "Bobby Joe" and "Food of the Gods".

Or maybe God does work in mysterious ways.

Zorro

.... according to the IMDb the last screen work he did was in Walter Hill's "Wild Bill" in 1995. I very much associate Marjoe witht the overall cheesiness of the 1970s. That white man Afro was a pretty dated look. But man! He was a busy guy during the Disco Decade and the 1980s - Earthquake, The Food of The Gods, Viva Kneivel!, Starcrash, T.J. Hooker, Fantasy Island, The A-Team, Falcon Crest, Circus of The Stars - the list goes on.

This from the new issue of Entertainment Weekly: " ... "She represents something absolutely pure" says the Buffy creator, who says his Amazon will not, repeat not, wear "star-spangled panties" a' la Lynda Carter's TV incarnation."

I guess that could be interpreted to mean they'll go with a more Alex Ross-like costume.

Panties? They were more like the shorts Olympic athletes wear. Without the costume you have a tough woman with long hair.

JAG is coming to an end this season but previous seasons are in syndication.

I guess Sandra Bullock is too old for WW.

I would definitely cast Tera Patrick in the porn version.

Ms. Patrick looks like she might be natural. Ms. Zemanova most definitely doesn't. In any case, one would hope for a slightly more wholesome look for the Amazon Princess.

My personal fav is Charisma, but if Whedon doesn't want to use anyone from the Buffyverse, then I guess here are some choices, submitted for your approval:

Rachel Bilson (she's a bit on the young side, 24):
http://www.jamesshirley.com/images/hotties/girls_of_the_oc/rachel_bilson/thumbz/thumb012.jpg

Amanda Righetti (I have no idea how old she is):
http://www.jamesshirley.com/images/hotties/girls_of_the_oc/amanda_righetti/amanda_righetti_002.jpg

And the one I'm personally rooting for, Melinda Clarke (aka Lady Heather from CSI). Although at 36 she'd be considered "old", I prefer to think of her as how the Commodores sang, "She's the one, the only one, who's built like a amazon":

24 isn't too young; that's how old Linda Carter was when she was cast.

Mindy Clark would make a good Hippolyta. You realize she's topless in that photo, right? That's body paint.

Liv Tyler? Hm. Not strong-looking enough for me. She makes a great elf, though.
