I found this in our local used DVD store, I had never even heard of the live action version, though I watched the animated episodes on Comedy Central years ago.

I thought this was hilarious! Patrick Wharburton was an amazing Tick, managing to even out-smarmy Adam West. He was good on Seinfeld, but this guy was born to play the eloquent-but-dim Tick! The 9 episodes were really well written, my favorite being the one with the Tick's befuddled reaction to finding out his M.O. of dropping villains tied up outside a police station with a note pinned to them seriously violates their constitutional rights.

The folks playing Arthur, BatManuel', and Captain Liberty (love her costume) are pretty funny too. Too bad this didn't run longer but the DVD set is definately worth a look, especially at the $9.99 used price! Extras are limited to a commentaries on a handful of episodes. We had a great time watching these last night, be a good warm-up for The Incredibles" tonight!

My wife and I are weird in that we've never seen the cartoon version but we did watch the live version. To this day we both still laugh at the "I am Bat... Manuel" (pantomine the opening of a cape). Personally speaking, I also loved Captain Liberty's cape.

My favorite is the episode of that other superhero dying in Captain Liberty's bed.

I'll have to check out the DVDs. I didn't realize they were out.

In the category of "actors who were born to play a certain animated cartoon character", Wharburton's Tick and Shelley Duvall's Olive Oyl are at the top of the list.

You're not alone, Gato. I have never seen the animated version, but stumbled across an episode of the live-action. I was in stitches! I immediately ran out and bought the DVD set. It's one of my favorites and Patrick Warburton is perfectly cast. I'm guaranteed to laugh out loud at every episode.

Yeah, the episode where the legendary superhero dies in bed with Captain Liberty is hilarious.

What a shame it didn't lhave a longer run than nine episodes. It was too clever to last on FOX.

On a related note, I like the episode where BatManuel' explains how it's hazardous to get to third base with Captain Liberty, while displaying his hand in a cast!

I loved that show. It dies too soon.
The cartoon was equally hilarious.
The comic book was ... okay.

I loved the animated series, but never saw the live-action series. I'll have to check out the DVD based on your comments. I thought Patrick Warburton was great as Puddy.

As for actors born to play certain roles, how about Guy Williams as Zorro? He was great. Linda Carter as Wonder Woman? Yup!

I loved the cartoon. My favorite character was The Midnight Bomber That Bombs At Midnight. When the live action came on Fox, the first episode was started in progress, because of the President speaking. So I had to wait till the DVDs came out to see it and the rest. John got it first,SPOON!! I got the first comic reprint, when the Tick got out of the crazy house, and I do not mean here!

When I saw Warburton in MIB2, I could only thing of the TICK.

And in MIB2 his character was "Agent T." Considering THE TICK was produced by the same people who did the MEN IN BLACK movies, maybe that explains the Tick's origins.

I'm hoping someone releases the animated series on DVD.

And did anyone see the episode of ANGEL where Angel was turned into a puppet? I remember thinking, "that could have been an episode of THE TICK." I knew Tick creator Ben Edlund was working on the show, so I checked on that episode. He not only co-wrote the episode but directed it as well.

That ANGEL episode was a hoot! I have mixed on VHS episodes of the TICK animated series, and also got some of the TICK trading cards.

Try Greg the Bunny as well, another very short-lived series cancelled at the same time by Fox :)

Wasn't it "The Mad Midnight Bomber Who Bombs Madly at Midnight"?

And he drove in a Yugo?
