Hello all,
I'm newly back into RC, haven't been in since way back in the early 80's I think. Owned a Fox and Assault Nitro back then. Currently getting back and will be doing some oval racing with a XXX-S. There is no sedan class and all the other cars are 10L4's etc 2wd. I will be limited to sportsman class (4 cell/stock motor) with this car but would at least like to be as competitive as I can be and not in the way. Currently I have a monster pro stock, 128T-64P spur and 30-35t pinions. I have heard mixed comments that I will and will not be competitive and actually raced this past weekend weekend. I believe I am just not even close to geared correctly. I currently run a 128t 64p spur and tried 30-35t pinion, 33 working the best but still very slow. Traction was not an issue but have a few sets from plaid, purple, double purple, green, blue. I did not enter any of the races just for the fact I would have been in the way I am so slow. I'd like to at least get it as best as it can be on oval and will of course do very good on road coarses but my buddies have 10L3 and 10L4's and don't do on-road obviously. Anyway any help would be appreciated. Oh, neglected to mention the mentioned track is very short, only 130 ft total drive length I believe they list it as. Right now I just seem like I can't get up to speed and when the car enters the corners being that it's 4wd it slows down and has a hard time getting back up to speed. So I guess I need the best combo of torque out of the corners but still good top end.

Thanks

ok apples to apples..pan car weigh about 1 pound less than your touring car. pan cars are direct drive 2 wheel drive cars made just for oval racing.

touring cars..there made for road course racing, weigh about a pound more and usualy use rubber tires.

are you allowed to use 6 cells? do the pan cars use 4 cells? can you use foam tires? can you use a oval body with a wing?
with 6 cells, a oval body with a wing and foam tires you will be a few laps short. but that would be the best you can expect from a touring car vs pan car contest.

if you have to run rubber tires and 4 cells you will not be having fun moving out of the way every other lap.

now slap a 19 turn, foam tires, oval body with wing and you lap the field easy! lol

sell the touring car and buy a 10L4O used and have no excuses....

well as for the apples to apples, I knew the car was going to be slower as I had mentioned I just wished to get the car the best it could be. Yes I'm limited as I mentioned to 4 cell, stock motor, besides that it's open. I can run a wing, I can run any body, currently I have a stratus 2.0 and working on a parma alfa. I'm running right now jaco foams, have some parma foams and trc foams coming. Combos of plaid front and purple/ double purples, green, blue. Have enough tires but traction is not a problem for me at all which I believe I mentioned also. Anyway I tested the car again today on a local onroad just to run it and found that 128/26 was much quicker and motor didn't get as hot as well so I believe I'm on the right direction. So if anyone else is attempting to do something similar to me on a short oval, try starting around 128/26 and work from there.
