Just an additional note to Lightningrick and any other collector who missed the cars from last year's Wild Weekend 4. The six convention cars were: white '66 Chevelle, same car White Lightning version; brown '66 Chevelle, same car White Lightning version; pink VW Bug, same car White Lightning version; VW Samba Bus, same car White Lightning version; '53 Corvette, same car White Lightning version. Very limited quantities of all castings except the pink VW Bug White Lightning (which is sold out) can still be purchased. The redline-tire version of the Camaro Zinger is also available in an extremely small quantity. Please contact me at sixty3feulie@netscape.net and I will be happy to help you. We want to put the cars in the hands of the collectors... where they belong, and regret any confusion caused by a competing convention last year. And if anyone has any additional questions or concerns about the upcoming Wild Weekend 5, please contact me via this email address anytime. I would be happy to talk with you. Thanks.

Please view the posts regarding Wild Weekend 5 in the general Die-cast forum to get further background info on this topic. Best wishes for your upcomig Lightning Fest 2005! Thanks.

OK, now you have me confused... what "competing convention"? Was their name close to the same as yours?? What cars were they selling? I have a set of 6 (I think) I got at Fest last year, are these the same cars?

Thanks in advance for the answers

Rob

The "competing" convention was called the Wicked Weekend. I only think that the true competition was the time it was held (within a week of the Wild Weekend) and the location (both in CT).

The cars at the Wild Weekend were JLs and the cars at the Wicked Weekend were HWs. In all honesty, the JLs were much better cars than the HWs, but the HW convention was much bigger and seemed to be supported better. We'll have to see what happens this year as both are planned to go on in much the same manner.

Rob, those should be the same cars.

Rob, even more confused! Is that possible?
Remember, you said it. And it is here in writing.
Can you believe that!!!!
Wow.

Cheers. Cobra

Wild Weekend has been held annually in Connecticut since 2001. It is a true "collectors" convention, promoted by a dedicated group of diecast diehards. Last year, another convention surfaced in Connecticut, using the name Wicked Weekend. Unfortunately, because of the similarity of the two names and the close proximity of the event dates, Wicked received the benefits of the history and reputation of excellence associated with Wild Weekend. Wicked had no history of its own, and as a start-up convention, apparently attracted attendees who; A) thought they were attending Wild Weekend; B) thought that the two conventions were run by the same promoters.

As to the issue of the convention cars, CTWLSMIKE explained it correctly. Wild had factory-produced Johnny Lightning cars, including White Lightnings, in very low production numbers. Wicked had, in my opinion, much lesser quality Code 3 Hot Wheels cars. This is not to say, however, that Wild was a "Johnny Lightning" convention, and Wicked was a "Hot Wheels" convention. Since Mattel will now only produce factory cars for the two annual national conventions promoted by Mike Strauss, Wild Weekend decided to open up the convention experience to collectors of all brands. That is what we tried to accomplish last year, and that is our continuing goal for this year. To that end, we have secured a factory-produced Muscle Machines 2005 Cobra as our convention car, limited to a production run of only 1000 pieces. We are also working on securing factory-produced cars for other Wild events, such as the Industry Icons dinner, and we will make the appropriate announcements as soon as the details are finalized. Wild will also have a code 3 Hot Wheels car at this year's event, as Hot Wheels collectors are still a very large part of the convention crowd, and we will produce a great-looking code 3 for their collections. Wild Weekend apologizes for the confusion created last year, but it was not our doing. We certainly welcome all Johnny Lightning collectors (yes, we will have a JL convention car also) and collectors of all die-cast brands to come out from July 7-10 to experience what is, and will always remain, the original and best convention on the East Coast! Our web site, www.wildweekend5.com is currently under construction, and should be live very soon. Please visit it regularly for all convention updates, and to purchase your Wild Weekend 5 tickets.

Too bad the Camaro WL wasn't available to the "hands of the real collectors" at the event. I see the WL Camaro isn't actually even mention here.

As much as anyone tries to make collectors happy, it will always be impossible to please everyone. As previously stated, the WL Zinger Camaro was only produced in a quantity of 40 pieces, specifically as a present to the Wild Weekend staff. A very generous gift indeed, which simply echoes the caliber of event that Randy Price and the entire Wild Weekend staff strive to host. Perhaps it would have been better if no mention of the WL Zinger ever got out... but I can't imagine the fallout if we we actually tried to conceal something from the collecting community! However, the redline-tire Zinger was itself produced in a production run of only 400! This car is scarcer than the majority of WLs, (which are usually produced at 10% of a 10k run, right?) but that fact always gets overshadowed by the existence of the WL version. And that's a shame...
