View Full Version : change 7v to 9v? addicted 03-13-2005, 07:50 PM can i put a 9.6v battery in my car without messin it up Talon911 03-13-2005, 10:35 PM I was woundering the same thing! can i convert my regular 7.2 volt battery and replace it with a 9.6v battery so it has longer time? i've heard some instances from which have slowed the car down. hankster 03-13-2005, 10:59 PM It all depends on the motor speed controller that is in your car. Most can only handle 8.4 volts. Going to 9 volts (really 9.6 volts) will not make the car run longer... it will run faster but the run time will be shorter. To get more run time you need to get a battery with more capacity. addicted 03-14-2005, 02:08 AM the 9.6v battery i got came out of a makita cordless drill and it has the same mah as my regular 7.4v so would i gain r lose nething by trying it Talon911 03-14-2005, 03:11 PM like hank said, it will only help increase the speed a bit edit: i would just connect two aa batteries like i did. works perfectly DynoMoHum 03-16-2005, 11:53 AM By increasing the voltage, you'd gain power and/or performance, but you will loose run time. (just like Hank said, only worded differntly) The reason is because of Ohm's law, the first and most important rule of electronics... More voltage for the same amount of electrical resistaince will yeild more Current (amps) through the system... More amps used, the faster your batteries will drain, making shorter run times a sure thing... All of that leads to increased heat too... and... well if you don't know for sure that your vehicles Electronic Speed Control can handle that much voltage and/or current, then you're probably going to break it if you try it... Again as Hank said, most ESC's are designed to operate at no more then 8.4 volts (seven cells) not 9.6 volts (8 cells)... Don't be mixin no AA cells with larger cells... your going to hurt something... maybe even yourself if/when the AA cells get overloaded and fail... addicted 03-16-2005, 10:57 PM ok...thanks guys saved me alot of time and research  vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
