View Full Version : spektrum and 4 cell oval racing????
katf1sh 03-13-2005, 12:57 AM ok tonight i got to use my KO spektrum module and receiver for the first time.
4 cell 19 turn
keyence rapida pro
ran the car in practice no problems
ran the car in both qualifiers no problems
TQ'd with the spektrum things are going great!
A main about 2 minutes into the run...car turns hard left full lock and than doesn't respond to transmitter at all??????
get car back recharge pack some run a ton of laps no problems???? when battery gets close to full dump car also doesn't respond to transmitter (no steering just nothing)
anyone have any ideas? receiver pack a must? or a capacitor? thanks bill
Kat I was having problems ( I don't have spektrum) must run capacitor though.I was under the impression that Keyence didn't need any capacitors, but I was wrong I think,at least today went smooth(car not driver) with the caps on.This is with 4 cell 21 turn.
burbs 03-13-2005, 04:09 AM i had glitching with my rapida in 4 cell stock... had caps on the motor to..
left turner 03-13-2005, 09:48 AM hey kat, theres another forum titlied spektum out. shows a link to spektrum and some problems with 4 cell. not enough power. they say you need to run a reciever pack,
pancartom 03-13-2005, 12:14 PM yup, i started that thread. untill they rework their recievers to work on the lower voltage that we 4 cell guys have, i'm afraid that it will be prone to these problems
Smalls 03-13-2005, 03:03 PM Tom...
Are rx for 4cell in the works? What about esc that always send a constant 6v to the rx like a gtx? Are there some esc's that it will work with or is it a rc pack only thing for 4 cell?
Chris
pancartom 03-13-2005, 04:06 PM chris, i am running gtx's in both of my ksg's.... and they both took hits. i think the reciever pack would do the trick, but i have had a tough time with them as well. it seems like i've had a 50% failure rate with the packs. they run fine for a few weeks, then it seems that they just won't hold enough of a charge to run a 4 minute race.
pancartom 03-13-2005, 04:08 PM oh.... great run in the 12th scale A last night. you sure had billy on the ropes! fun race to watch, that's for sure.....
Smalls 03-13-2005, 09:02 PM Thanks.... stupid me for getting billy and myself sideways....sick pace to that point. Your A was a chess match all 4 of you guys finnished less then .8 of sec?, and your car in q'ing was sick smooth.
Also.... so much for my GTX theory.
S Brown 03-14-2005, 11:40 AM Hi Guys,
I’ve been using new software updated the week after the Snowbirds. I’ve run it stock, 19t, and open mod at 3 differnt tracks without a receiver pack and not had any issues. The new software works great.
If your experiencing any problems with your Spektrum system pleases contact our service department at 877-504-0233 to have your units sent in for a free software upgrade.

katf1sh 03-14-2005, 06:15 PM sonny!!! my unit has to be as new if not even more up to date than yours? mine was bought last thursday a day after they hit the hobby shops for the KO rqadio?????? the rc tech site has lot's of chatter about racers using different speedos and having the issues i'm having? not enough amperage or voltage to the receiver? so far the quick fix is a novak stutter stopper 4700 cap or a receiver pack. i was in love with my unit until the main! and i am hearing if you send it back in for repair you get put on a waiting list for 6 weeks? the lack of receivers for warranty repairs is slim to none? and noone at spektrum is allowed to post on the forums? i'm going to try those 2 things, first the novak cap..last resort a receiver pack because i ihate those things..they always go dead at the wrong times, lol.
if nothing helps i will send it back in next monday after our speedway spectacular race. trouble with a oval car is you need an area to test it with..no tracks near me..so i'll have to wait to try the cap.....thanks for your post bro!
S Brown 03-14-2005, 07:49 PM Cat I checked and I have the same version software as you, I talked with our engineer today regarding your situation and he informed me they have seen instances with certain combination of ESC’s and motors on 4 cell that cause a momentary loss of servo signal. You are correct the best solution for now is to use a studder stopper or receiver pack. I’ve been using a GMSX12 ESC and have not personally had any issues since receiving the updated software.
Let me clear something up regarding the service issue, its usually only takes a few days to turn around software upgrades. Their is a small delay on repair parts mainly to do with some bind buttons which were not working properly, but it’s less then a couple of weeks, not 6. But these are two separate issues.
Regarding Spektrum employees not being able to post on websites. I work with the people in charge of this product everyday and have never had anyone say not to post anything. That’s not the way we do business. In fact I know one of our engineers who also is a racer has posted on some other sites. I’m probably the only oval racer connected to the project right now and just happened to see this thread today. I can tell you we are all trying to do everything we can to be proactive in solving any problems that exist. When we here of issues we try to gather as much feedback as possible from the racers so that we can quickly find a solution.
katf1sh 03-14-2005, 08:19 PM sonny you realy need to put the fires out on rc tech ...you would be the first employee to do so. i read through 10 pages of chatter and thats where i found my info on the stutter stopper. but the info came from a fellow racer. spektrum has not come out and said there is a issue with 4 cell cars nor have they recomended a receiver pack or capacitor to solve some of those issues with 4 cell cars.
and yes it is the guys who have needed a replacement receiver or module not a software upgrade.
but i must say when it is working, spektrum is pure heaven! i'm willing to do whatever to get it working perfectly. i had several sold until the A main when it failed, lol. i also like the fact that you are here to help! very cool
if it sounded like i was bashing on spektrum that was not the intention at all. i'm all about me me me and i want mine to work asap, lol. i will report back after this weekend to tell you how it worked. either the cap or receiver pack. and a keyence rapida is not a cheap speedo so it must be hit or miss as far as servo, esc combos go?
the more info we give you guys the easier it will be to figure it all out. i think the cap will fix my issues... thank you again sonny for coming on here and lifting the fog for us. you da man! i want to copy and paste your post and put it on rc tech as well...but i think it would be better for you to do it? thanks bill
pancartom 03-14-2005, 10:39 PM thanks, sonny. i'll call in tomorrow.
