In Northern Indiana we have a number of tracks. In Elkhart is Pete Russell's, in Mishawaka you have Michiana RC Raceway, in Plymouth you have Jam's Raceway, and in Laporte you have Finishline Hobbies. (Sorry if I forgot anyone) There are also tracks in Angola, Hamlet and Fort Wayne. And this is just Northern Indiana, there may be some tracks in Michigan that are close. I have been in R/C racing for over 20 years and I have watched many tracks come and go. Running a track just doesn't always work out. The cost of all the equipment to start the track on top of the cost of rent doesn't allow for much if any profit, which is required to keep the track running. Most of the tracks in this area are lucky enough to have someone or a group of people who want to have the track and enjoy racing. But starting a new track is tough. Come and visit some of the tracks and find one that races the type of cars or trucks you want to race. Then come and join us for some good (well maybe not the driving) clean fun.

Currently... The only oval tracks I know of in 'southern' Michigan is in Lansing... and well that's it... There was a track in Kalamazoo earlier this season, but it's closed now. There is a track in Bay City... twice a month there is a track in Mt Pleasnt.... there are some guys up in Soo St. Marie that race oval... and maybe some in Travers City... but that's all the oval I know of in Michigan.

The pits are kind of tight right now, but the plan is to enlarge the loft for more pit areas. It's nice being able to have a track so close. I've run at Michiana R/C (formerly Lapaz Raceway) since it first opened. Its a good bunch of guys and we have a lot of fun. You can race oval, onroad or offroad all on the same night. It's quite unique. The oval classes they are running now are sportsman, nastruck and nascar. The nascar class is for the more experienced drivers and we run 6 cell with stock motors. Though we have had some 4 cell 19T cars run with us sometimes. Check out www.michianarc.com for more information.

Pete's has a Busch class that is like a novice class. The rules are the same as Nascar(6 cell stock) but for the slower guys. Pit space is plenty and we all willing to help. I started racing at the Goshen track. I think before Hank was running it. I might know you and your family.

You can pick up a R/C Car Action magazine. They usually have a lot of track listings. And to list a track is free. I know when I go on vacation somewhere I look at it just to see if there is a track or hobby shop close by.

JAMS in Plymouth, IN races on Saturday night and runs a wide range of classes. As far as pan cars go, they race Beginner (Sportsman); 4-cell with stock motor (late model body); 6-cell with 540 motor; 6-cell with stock motor and 4-cell with 19Turn. If you bring your cars, they will find a class for you to run. They run some other classes too (Gearbox, Legends). They have a pretty regular crowd and good racing. Nice track and great management. check out their website for more information on the track/classes at www.jamsrc.com If you have any more questions, feel free to email them or myself (swerve3031@yahoo.com), and I will do my best to answer your questions.

I've also ran at Pete's from time to time....great track and all the guys are more than willing to help you out. Every time that I've raced with them, they are more than helpful and will give you any info that you ask. Pete is a great guy and has a good selection of parts in his hobbyshop.
