So far it's due on May 24th. Broken up into sets instead of season sets, in this case thats fine with me, I'd much rather get them any way they want to release them then not at all.
First set is just under 10 hours running time.

That's very good news. I always loved the show....until the suits, in their ultimate wisdom, tried to boost ratings with the addition of "Pappy's Lambs." That signalled the downfall or when the show "jumped the shark."

Anyone heard any rumors of "The Untouchables" coming out on DVD? I've got the Columbia House series, but it didn't cover all 120 episodes.

No word yet on The Untouchables. If they do it will pobably be a Columbia House exclusive at first just like all the other older shows from Paramount. A guy was telling me that Columbia House and Paramount and tied together somehow. They are both owned by the same parent company or something.

I'm a huge WWII airplane freak, so I loved the flying scenes. The rest was pretty mediocre.

I just had the horrible realization that this show is almost 30 years old. Yeesh...time flies.

It's heavily etched in my memory more than almost any other show of the era. Like John P, I'm a natural airplane freak. In my case, the experience was magnified because in the fall of 1976, I had just started working for a small bush flying outfit and I was learning to fly. I remember the show being quite a topic of conversation. I thought it was pretty damn good for a TV action/drama OF THAT ERA.

Funny thing is that I never really thought of it that much as a "period" piece. The Corsair had a long life span and actually produced into the early 1950's. the French Navy used them until 1964 and I think they were some still serving in the Salvadoran airforce when the show was on. So, in 1976, the Corsair wasn't really much of an antique!

That "Pappy's Lambs" reference spurred a long forgotten teenage memory. I remember one of those girls that caused me more than a few hormone induced nighsweats. I did a little researh and managed to find her picture on the 'net. It's actress Kathy McCullen (sometimes spelled McCullem) who was one of the lambs.

Gotta admit the Corsair is my favortie WWII plane, I could almost watch the series even if Ben Affleck was the star.

The show became a conversational issue when original members of the Black Sheep squad complained about the "creative" liberaties that were used for the stories.

The original team/squad were top notch pilots and not low-lifes.

My response to that controversy is the same as it is for every action/drama. The complaint is both entirely true and entirely irrelevant.

You can make a true story into a movie but you can never make a true story in a TV series. Most cops NEVER fire their service revolvers in the line of duty...but that would make for pretty dull TV :).

I was surprised to read an account from a P-38 pilot in the Pacific who actually admitted that his squadron roamed the air for several months in WWII and never even SAW an enemy plane! Great show that!

So I give TV a huge amount of dramatic license. I'm less forgiving about movies. If you are trying to tell a story in 2 hours, you should be able to remain reasonably true and faithful to any subject. But when you have to come up with an hour of action every single week, you have to break a lot of rules and bend a lot of truth.

I love the Corsair too, but could you imagine Affleck with a battery on his shoulder, to say nothing of mixing it up with Red West.

I remember one episode that had a couple of P-38's as the co-stars. I was in heaven that week!

I also remember trying to build the Revell 1/32 "Black Sheep" Corsair when I was 11. It was well above my skills at the time, and I actually cried because it looked so horrible when I finished it. But, boy was it big! One of these days I'll get the Trumpeter kit and do it up right. I just have no idea where I'll put it!

True the Black Sheep weren't low-lifes, but weren't they all in hock at one time or another? I know a couple were ex-Flying Tigers, but it's been ages since I read about the Sheep...

Funny, I remember an Operation Petticoat, (both the original Cary Grant/Tony Curtis movie and the short lived series) but not the other. :dude:
