View Full Version : Movie Car Questions and Dilemmas

I have a few questions about some movie cars, so I thought that I would start a thread.

First, the Ertl Vanishing Point Challenger states that the car was a 426 Hemi as printed on the hood. However, other models such as the Revell 1/25th scale cars say 440 on the hood. Which is correct or was it ever known? I've seen the movie several times and don't ever remember hearing it stated.

Second, Does anyone know if Ertl is producing anymore of the Bullitt cars? I can't seem to find that answer out even from the people at Ertl. It appears that the licenses for AutoArt and Ertl have expired. Also, does anyone know if there is a new Bullitt movie planned?

Last, does anyone know if there are any replicas of the Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry cars planned for the future?

Thanks :p

I dont remember if the original movie or the re-make movie had it , but theres a scene where the car needed an oil pan replaced & it was mentioned that it had a Hemi in it ..

I doubt there will be any more Bullitt cars , but one never knows . Dirty Mary & Crazy Larry would be a cool Charger to make , but the movie is probably not well known enough to do ..

Cool, Thanks for the info. Hey Motor City USA did a California Kid car and that was a ABC movie of the week. I can only hope that someone will do the Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry car.

Best pic I could find of the Dirty Mary Crazy Larry Charger.
As for the Bullitt Mustang, I was just in a Meijer recently and they had the 1:18 scale ERTL die-cast kit on the shelf. I've also seen the Mustang at hobby shops and stores that sell die-cast. It's out there.

Gunn : I believe Ertl makes 'The Car' Lincoln in 1/18 . A friend sent me a link with pics of the Semi from Duel . I asked him to re-send it & will post it here when I get it . There was suppossedly 3 old Peterbuilt tankers used in the film & someone has 'restored' the one thats left & drives it around S. CAL . Slim chance any will be done in 1/64 ...

I bought the Vanishing point DVD. I put on the directors comments and found out 8 cars where used in the film. Only one survied the filming. It is possible that the cars had both 440's and hemi's in them. It is much like the Dukes of Hazard. The cars had whatever engines they could get with the car type being used for the film project.

I dont remember if the original movie or the re-make movie had it , but theres a scene where the car needed an oil pan replaced & it was mentioned that it had a Hemi in it ..

I've also seen the vanishing Point Challenger in two different versions; one is "dirty" and other the is just plain white.

I thought the Bullitt cars have been discontinued? The Mustang seems to be out there, but the Charger seems harder to find? (The ERTL cars) I found a perfect Charger on E-Bay and bought it. (I looked on your site MCM, and you show it as "sold out" or else I woulda bought it from you...! I have the Auto Art cars, both the mustang from the movie as well as the "new age" Bullitt.

I agree the Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry car would be quite cool! One more series also would be from Christine. I have the Fury. They also should offer the Charger and the Camaro from that movie as well.

Hey thanks for looking at my site. Yeah, the Charger is hard to find. So much so, that I can't get it from any of my distributors. However, I am getting mixed messages on the availablity. Both AutoArt and Ertl have let the licenses expire, however, I've been told that more may be available from Ertl in March. Who knows??? If that happens, I'll be sure to snap some up.

Did AutoArt make the Charger as well?

No, not to my knowledge. Another tidbit is that the AutoArt James Bond licenses have lapsed as well. It's a same because the detail on that series of cars is incredible.

In the original movie, Kowalski's car was a 440. In the remake, the cars used in filming were also 440s but badged as Hemis.

The #1 Duel truck was destroyed in the movie. There were two backups that are still supposed to be around. One is in Burbank.

Some pics of it at this website. Couple of good closeups.

The only movie that matters is the original the remake blew dog and was such a bomb.
Kowalski drove a 440 six pack in the original..

Dear All:

I got the Bullitt Cars - Ford and Charger - around 2001,and the Manufacturer was,if my memory does not fail me,Revell Die-cast.Nice little models.

I also think that the Crazy Mary..etc. Charger would be nice.
