View Full Version : American Graffiti Series
thenovice 02-27-2005, 01:49 AM I have been building a collection of the 1:18's from Ertl. I originally was told there are 4 in the set, but I have been finding several different ones and am wondering just how many are there??
I have:
'58 Impala
'55 Chevy
'32 Deuce Coupe
'51 Merc
'62 Corvette
I have seen the Corvette always as a white with teal stripes car, however I came across a burgundy Corvette, just like the one in the car lot (where Terry The Toad stops to look at the damage he's done from his little mishap) so I bought it. I have not seen another one since and I wonder if this might be pretty rare?
Also, I have had my cars signed by members of the cast of this movie, does this really increase the value of the cars? Paul LeMat (plays Milner) signed my '32, Candy Clark and Charles Martin Smith have signed my Impala, and Bo Hopkins signed my '51 Merc. Smith is somewhat of a recluse and rarely, if ever, signs anything...
Anyone else in to these and can you provide any info as to the total number of cars in the complete set?
Movie Car Mania 03-04-2005, 08:15 PM There are a few more 1/18th scale Ertl cars. Unforetunately, none are the 56 T-bird that Suzanne Summers drove in the movie, I've only seen that in 1/25th scale. The other 1/18 cars are a Yellow 56 Ford Pickup, Black 58 Impala & Blue 57 Chevy. They must have been seen driving around during the film.
Keep collecting.

tsk259 06-20-2005, 07:33 PM You posted the original message a long time ago, but here's my 2 cents:
There were 12 in the series (and I think there is an all chrome chase car out there also but I have never seen it). The 4 Originals (white '58 Impala, the beautiful yellow 32 Ford Deuce coupe, the chopped 51 Merc, and Bob Falfas 55 Chevy). These were followed by the 34 Ford hot rod in primer grey, 57 dark blue Chevy, the all black 58 Impala, the 3 62 corvettes (white/baby blue, Honduras red, and the all white), the yellow 59 Ford pickup, and the flamed 57 Chevy Bel Air convertible, which like the all white corvette was also a short run which makes it a whole lot rarer than the Honduras Maroon (the actual color of the red corvette) 'vette.
You might want to look at the film again. It's the all white corvette he is offered for sale after the fender bender. The all white American Graffiti ERTL release even has a "SOLD" sign in the window.
Movie Car Mania 06-20-2005, 09:45 PM Yeah I haven't looked at the movie in awhile. I think that it's time for a hot rod movie fest. However, with the advent of DVD's I find myself going to the race scenes. :p I would love to add all of the 1/18th scale cars to my personal collection some day, but I just have the main four for now. I have a complete set of the 1/64th scale cars though.

Thank you for the detailed reply. I happen to have the DVD and have seen the movie dozens of times. I will try to post a screenshot of the burgundy corvette. There were a line of them. Regardless, you supplied the info I am looking for. I see the white corvette often on E-Bay but almost never see the burgundy car.
tsk259 07-18-2005, 10:18 PM Hey y'all. Just thought I'd throw this out there to see what kind of buzz it will generate. I often hit the flea markets with my wife. This past Sunday she was looking at wicker baskets (can you feel the excitement????) when I stumbled upon the Holy Grail of the American Muscle American Graffiti car set. Yep, none other than the 1932 Ford Deuce Coupe in brushed aluminum. Box is in FANTASTIC UNOPENED CONDITION. 'Bout has a heart attack right then and there. I had never seen it. Only read about it once. I was wondering if anyone has seen this beauty and did they do that finish on any of the others. And is calling it brushed aluminum even correct? It's not chrome.
In any event, the price tag was way to expensive for me to even consider adding it to my collection at this time. He wanted $200 firm, no haggling or trades. I was a little bummed, bit now I know they really do exist. Now if I can just get my hands on one....... And I am looking for the all white corvette if someone has one they would like to sell. Mine has a nasty tear in the window of the box and as we all know, packaging is everything. Happy collecting folks!!!!!
