Just wondering if anyone collects it anymore. I see more and more of it sitting on shelves until it gets clearence in the stores, and Action has raised their production numbers again. Its amazing how fast the NASCAR collectables market has gone downhill.

The only way i would buy any NASCAR die-cast now is if they introduced the Dick Trickle lifetime series.:jest:

I'd buy the Dick Trickle lifetime series!

Actually, I recently purchased my first new NASCAR diecast since 2001 (in '01 I picked up Bill Elliott's Dodge and Ricky Rudd's Havoline Ford). I saw a 1980s Pontiac Grand Prix with Richard Petty's STP paint scheme hanging at Wal*Mart and decided to get it. It's an Action, and it cost $5, but it was worth it. I've been picking up a lot of the old RCCA '80s cars on the secondhand market- getting some pretty nice deals on them. My goal is to have a full starting grid for a 1980s race. Right now my model years span from 1983-1985, but I'll get this right. What I'd like to see is Johnny Lightning rerelease their stock car series, so I can get some quality Ford, Chevy, and Pontiac castings for customizing into the rest of the cars I'll need.

As for new NASCAR pieces, if I can find a 1/64 of the Bill Elliott Coors #39 I will buy it. I'd really like a 1/64 of Elliott's Coors/Melling #9 Thunderbird from 1985- RCCA made the Melling #9 sans Coors decals (the 1983 paint scheme) which I have, but the Coors one would rock!

I still buy a few Dale Jarrett peices if I like them. I really don't care if their worth anything.

I saw that Petty car at Walmart oo and was very tempted to buy it, just didnt like the wheels. Instead i bought some Brats and Sourkraut for the grill.

Speaking of the secondhand market, i can't believe how inexpensive the action elite cars are becoming.

I wonder if Action is going to continue their beer and beverage cars with the car in the beer can/bottle ect. I thought those were neat, picked up the Dale Jr. Beer Bottle to go on my beer shelf. Looks kinda of odd amongst german beer steins though.

Swifty you watching the whole season this year or just a select few? I might watch up to the final 10, but I refuse to watch NASCAR's bastardation of a playoff series.

I'm only watching the races Bill Elliott's in this year. Once he hangs up the helmet, that's it for me too.

For me, the only motorsport I have any interest in nowadays is USHRA's Monster Jam series. It may be "professional" wrestling on wheels, but at least it isn't pretending to be something it isn't (like NASCAR pretending to be football).

I forgot to add this:

The last time I actively pursued NASCAR diecast was 1999. I managed to get about half of the full field, but could never find the rest. 1998 is the last year I managed to get all of the cars I was interested in getting.

By 2000 the NASCAR diecast had become overpriced and most were coming from Action (the highest priced, and lousiest rolling) not Hot Wheels or Racing Champions. So I gave up.

What worries me is the direct that Hot Wheels has taken the Monster Jam line of diecast trucks- with larger blingy wheels. I'm starting to run out of small wheeled trucks to do wheel swaps with, so I'm hoping that either I will find more, or they'll go back to the old, more realistic wheels... I don't want to stop collecting these trucks.

I still collect a few Mikey Waltrips & Rusty Wallaces but I'm more likely to track down older pieces on epay then go looking for new stuff. The only new driver I'm ccollecting is of course Kerry Earnhardt.

Got a GM Dealers only 1/24 Action fathers day car on epay for $25.00! It's 1/264!!

Does anyone make 1/24th scale supertrucks now? I'm not a huge fan and i have never really looked for them but i want one for my shelf. Maybe a Kerry Earnhardt will come out now! :hat:

I have been selectively buying cars lately. I only buy Mikey Waltrip stuff (hes my favorite) and i usually buy 1 of each DEI basic paint scheme each year to have the team look. I also buy the beer cars for my beer memorabelia. Most of this is bought second hand now for about 1/3rd of its original cost.

Pony nice snag! I noticed you can get autogrpahed action cars off ebay for cheaper than they are in most shops!

Its just now the production numbers are just sickening. Everything on the shelf always ends up clearenced around here, so i hesitate on buying anything.

DW has some supertrucks on his site, I think they're made by Action. I did notice a series of supertrucks when I was at TRU last week, not sure who they were by but there weren't any drivers I liked. No Kerry :)

I was thinking of picking one up to custom into a #15 Kerry truck

Hopefully Kerry's truck will end up as a model kit. Haven't bought and built one of them in awhile!

I collect Jeff Gordon 1:24 Action cars. Still missing a few from last year. Also have a few Jimmie Johnson cars and Earnhardt's last win car.

Hello folks. This is my first post, so be gentle. Does anyone collect NASCAR anymore. The answer is yes, with a caveat. Lots of kids still buy the cars because the are shiny and go zoom zoom on the tv.
The adult collector market has past its prime. Just as RC2 killed the early general merchandise market (P.S. bet you can't guess who was a big deal in RC when it got started, his initials are F.W.) Action is doing its d_ _ _ est to kill off the top end market.
I used to try to get all of Sr's stuff, but Action has found a way to even kill off that market (A real silver '95 bank going for $53.00 dollars, puhleeeeeeeeeeeez). I need one piece to finish getting everything I want. I will quit then. I am quite glad I sold off most of my stuff when I did.

Hey Intimidator! Welcome to the boards, glad you found us. You're right about them killing the market, I think it started in 98 with all the anniversary stuff, they made it impossible to collect it all so many people gave up.

I used to try and collect all the Dale Sr stuff too but had to give up and I don't buy any of the new #3 stuff coming out. I was talking with a wally world employee last night, shes trying to buy all the DE stuff coming out from winners circle because "it'll be worth something because it's Dale" I tried to explain to her how that wasn't neccissarily true but she wouldn't hear it. Guess I know where her wally check goes.

I still collect some Mikey & Kerry but I only get what I like and don't worry about resale value. I want it because it's my drivers :)

Just curious, whats that 1 piece you still need?

Hi Gang
I was cruising the vendors here in Daytona during Speedweeks (the independant vendors set up at the Daytona Flea market) and they were dumping all scales, at scrap prices. 1/24 Elite's between $10-$20 dollars, all drivers, Team Caliber High End "Owners Series" between $5.00-$15.00,(orig $89.00+ ea) and there were literally TONS of basic Winners Circle, Racing Champs, Action AP, and Team Caliber Preferred for $7.50 and less. Included in the selection were Jr., Gordon, and all the (using this term very loosly) Top Selling Drivers. Nascar diecast started dying in '98, and is getting worse each year. I bought some 2005 1/64 diecast after the Twin 150's for $4.00 each and less. Yes they were action, and the $4.00 one was the '05 Jr. Born on date car. I use'em for scenery on my HO slotcar layout. I have several friends that follow the cup/busch tour, and everyone of them told me that when whatever diecast they have left is gone, they wont buy any more, cause it does not sell. Its a shame that FW really sunk the collectable aspect by re-issuing many of the HTF cars in huge numbers. In the Wally Worlds, K-Marts, etc here in Daytona, there are still 2000 season cars still hangin on the pegs, still at retail. If there is a cup/busch race near you, hit the off site vendors, you might find what your lookin for at "goodwill" prices.

Thanks guy, I appreciate it. The one piece I am looking for is not a Sr. piece. It is a piece that was of an old friend of mine. It is the black Hodgden Camaro of Neil B. Oh, and I would take a Country Time clear window car.
If anyone needs some old stuff, I will check with my Buds here in Bama and we will see whats still around here. Most of my friends that owned shops have gone out, but there still might be some stuff floating around.
