Nice find! What you have there are Aurora Xlerator cars. in the late 60's, Aurora made some slotless sets and cars, to offer a more realistic racing experience (actual passing and lane changing on a track). They didn't go over well (actually, to the present, no slotless race sets did that well). The bodies are compatible with Aurora slotted cars. Most Xlerator bodies are worth quite a bit among collectors. The Camaro and Firebird you have there are 2 good ones (worth around $100 to some collectors). Some hotwheels guys also deal in slots, so you got some good trade bait. The J-Car and Chapperal don't fetch too much, as they're common bodies. Muscle cars are much harder to find.

thanks for the info. the guy i got them from had the whole track and some model motoring grandstands in the box also.

the grand stands were still sealed and brand new but i didn't want to carry all the track and boxes so i left them just took the cars

he wanted 7 bucks for everything i just gave him 5 for the cars

schweet! I picked up a set of 4 XLs on Fleabay a couple years ago for like 30 bucks... I lucked out on a BIN. Like yours, I got a Camaro and a Firebird with a Chapparal and a Ford J, but mine are the white Camaro and yellow Firebird. I'm pretty sure the red and blue combination you got are more valuable/desirable...

Keep in mind those chassis have some value, too. The armature in those cars is a version of Aurora's famous Quadralam. Not the same as the Super II arm, but a good runner in its own right. Guys who run Thunderjets like to strip the guts out of XL chassis to make monster big-block Thunderjets. I have a couple myself. All you need to add to the XL arm/plate/cluster gear/shaft is a pair of Magnatraction motor magnets. I've seen XL-Tjet conversion kits on Fleabay for like 20 bucks...

I think Aurora first released the XLerators through Montgomery Ward stores in 1973.
