Dear community of computer literates,
I have a computer, that when booting up, whether del is pressed or not, continually opens up the CMOS setup. How might i fix this for it means i cannot fully boot up the computer and use it.
It may be of relevence to know that i reseted the CMOS using the jumper on the motherboard as a student had set a password on the CMOS. However, i now realise the password was not a problem, simply the fact that the CMOS setup continually appears whether requested or not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

My guess is the internal battery is bad... it is looking for you to reset the date/time. Once that has been set it should boot OK.... until you turn off the power again.
Take a look at the date and see if it is wrong.

date and time are both correct even after power down.
I also swapped the battery with that of a functional computer. the problematic computer remained problematic, the functional computer remained functional.
on the problematic computer, it finishes the memory test, and enters setup straight away - maybe that will help you...

yeah i had a problem with a old pII on a old one, the old lithium battery in there went poof no more power and it kept screwing up, gonna have to replace the one in my old puter pretty soon, had it since 98, and well the battery's last a good bit but not that long and well no time problems but i did have it with that other one, replaced it and all went well.

Can you swap the memory between the two computers? Could be it is failing the memory post test. Also, pull out the expansion boards and reseat them... could be a loose board.
