From what I understand, LL is a "descendant" of Rokar in a sense much like the Tomy SG+ cars are in the timeline of original Aurora G+ cars.

My question then becomes, how similar are the LL cars compared to the Rokar M chassis cars in handling and speed?

If I'm understanding incorrectly about the LL lineage, somebody please correct me.

Thanks!

The Life-Like M chassis is almost identical to the Rokar M5 chassis. I think they are comparable as far as performance is concerned. I don't have enough of the Rokars to accurately quantify the differences as a group. I find both M chassis to be pretty much okay. The Life-Like T chassis is an entirely new beast. I'm not a big fan of the T but the quality seems to have improved from the initial lot. Some of the originals were loud and had wicked neo dot tractions. I've since gotten some that run quiet and smooth but the neo dot tractions are dogs.

The Tomy chassis line (Turbo, SRT, and Super G+) share nothing with the Aurora line other than brand labeling. Tomy bought the rights to the AFX and Aurora name. Tomy produced some early cars using leftover Aurora stock and tooling and slapped on Tomy labeling. I believe these early Tomy cars came with the Aurora "G-Plus" chassis. Both Aurora and Tomy did a chassis called a "Super G Plus" but the two chassis are totally different. The Aurora Super G-Plus is just a hopped up version of the G-Plus. The first new Tomy produced chassis was the Tomy Turbo. This was followed by the venerable Tomy Super G+.

Thanks AFX!

I ask about LL because I broke out my old Rokar Indy style bodied M chassis and wasn't as unimpressed as I remember being. I thought it was a decent handling car.

Those Rokar cars you have are pretty much identical in speed and performance...Just a matter of if you got lucky with a good chassis. As far as compatabity, only the bushings on the arms were different.

Things like proper pick-up shoe angle, spring tension and a little lubrication sure have changed the poor handling characteristics that so many of my cars had, into smooth running, great handling cars.

Also the older magnets from the M5 chassis were a little better. The newer ones have white paint on the top, older ones don't.

This does not however mean an older m5 will be faster than a newer LL M chassis, it's the luck of the draw.
But, when you do find a good one, with just some good low wide silicones they will fly!

I've noticed with the later rokars and LL fast trackers that their brush springs aren't very good. I've either replaced them with tyco or aftermarket stock replacement. The originals don't seem to hold up to the heat or something.

Yes you're right, they don't like heat.
anyone running wall warts will get big time heat with the M chassis. They do not like Dirty Power.

Another trick is to use the older G+ commutator brushes with the V-Notch on the spring side. These brushes have a higher Copper content and provide better current transfer.
