joez870 02-01-2005, 01:00 AM I have had a HW DC in straight pine-sol for 3 days now. Exactly WHEN is the paint and tampos s'posed to loosen? (BTW, what is the best tool for removing the loose paint?)
Thanks guys!

I don't know if Pine Sol will ever even put a dent in the baked on enamel that is on HW's diecast.
I've stripped a lot of diecast, and nothing works like Zip Strip paint and varnish remover.
It will usually strip it to bare metal in 2 minutes or less.

no, I don't think it would work better...
But it might be able to loosen up that residue left over from your other attempt when used with an old toothbrush...

T-racer 02-01-2005, 06:57 PM I've always used Easy Off oven cleaner, spray it on let it sit a couple hours, then rinse it off in the sink
doctorslotcar 02-02-2005, 10:31 AM I guess it must depend on the type of paint. Pine -sol has worked well for me . I scrub every few hours with a tooth brush and within 24 hours im back to original color scheme. If the pine sol dosent touch it Ive used drain cleaner and oven cleaner, this may indicate a laquer type paint which may require a stronger stripping agent. Im tryin the spray nine and castrol now, anything to reduce strip time. I need to learn to slow down and not hurry custom jobs, so i try to get a few going so paint cures and other ideas may come to mind.
sethndaddy 02-02-2005, 11:17 AM I found something a few years ago that would strip the "candy" coloring off of the johnny lightning cars and leave a silver chrome finish, but can't remember what it was???? anyone know???
thanks

Never, Pine Sol won't touch it. To get the tampos off without hurting the paint, use nail polish remover and they'll come right off. To get the paint off, use lacquer thinner.
joez870 02-02-2005, 08:44 PM Ah ha! I was under the impression that pinesol was going to take care of the paint too. Thanks for the good info. My caddy is now down to its bright yellow paint. thankyou guys!

That be it!

I don't think that these will take off the paint by themselves...
But they may be effective in removing the patchy areas where other cleaners didn't work... Like the left over red on --rick's car here...
