I watched this on TCM the other night after not having seen it for many years. This "futuristic" movie was shot in 1966 and some of it seems a little stilted and corny now (why do you need an entire hook & ladder squadron just to burn a little pile of books?) - but the most prescient detail in the movie is that everyone is so happy and proud of their wall-mounted 16x9 flat-screen TVs!

Well, that's an ok flick if you can buy the ridiculous concept that the government controls the masses thru the media...

Look deeper - great contrast, bleak scenery, outside looking in, overbearing sight of government, internal struggle with life's perception, reality and quest, alarms of life~death, wilderness etc. - that's what Truffaut was going for. :thumbsup:
