View Full Version : e-maxx with no turning radias
rustlerkid 01-27-2005, 07:32 PM hey guys i have this friend with a e-maxx and i kick his ass all the time in races because it doesnt turn all the time he has 3000 black label for batteries so its getting enough power its just that it has no turnign radias hes changed the servo once and taken it to numorus hobby shops and they all say the same thing " there ya go its fixed" and then he gets home and it still doesnt turn im pretty good with rc cars but im tottaly stumped on this one
OvalmanPA 01-27-2005, 08:02 PM Make sure none of the rod ends are binding on the end of the tie rods. What kind of servos are these places putting in? If they are stock servos then they are about junk and should put something in with more torque like a Hitec 645 or 945.
tommckay 01-27-2005, 09:12 PM Also make sure the pollow balls in the axel carriers are not binding. Make sure if his trim on the radio is set right. Is he still using the TQ3 radio?
rustlerkid 02-06-2005, 06:44 PM He still has the tq3 radio system when its charged up all the way it runs and steers hard for about 5 min. After that it goes all to hell and he cant steer worth a shit if u guys have any info help me out.

Needs a New Servo. If it steers good for 5 minutes then goes to hell I think the servo is probably heating up and is no good.
rustlerkid 02-07-2005, 07:01 PM hes already replaced that i think 3 times it also twitches when it sits i told him to look into getting a new reciever do u think that will help
OvalmanPA 02-07-2005, 09:35 PM What kind of servo is he having put in it? If it's another one of the stock ones then...........

Exactly what I was thinking.... Must upgrade!
rustlerkid 02-07-2005, 11:00 PM Hes putting stock ones in but even before he runs the servo the wheels twitch. And i remember the day he got it it could do donuts now it does circles. So u dont think the reciever has anything to do with it and he should upgrade servos. Ill tell him and well try it if u guys have any other reasons this might be happening spit them out because im lost on this one later guys.
ChrisHarris 02-08-2005, 07:19 AM Even if the radio is bad he needs an upgraded servo! That is probalby the main complaint with e-maxxes that I have heard
One simple thing he can try is to add a five cell receiver pack. Plug it into the 'batt' slot in the EVX and DO NOT turn on the EVX. That will give him huge juice to the servo which can never hurt.
The twitching. is that the truck being jerky or the steering wiggling a bit? He should check for frayed antenna wires and make sure his transmitter is fully charged but in reality he needs to upgrade that radio! The JR XR3 is a good 3ch radio. I am pretty sure the third can be set to work the two speed tranny (anybody confirm this please). Because JR has new synthesized radios the XR3 can be had for real cheap money, especially used.
tommckay 02-08-2005, 08:29 AM The upgrade will help, replacing the weak stock servo saver will help too.
As Chris said, check the antenna wire for fraying. You can try to swap out another radio and reciever and see if the problem stops, if it does then you know its the radio or reciever thats the problem. The Stock TQ3 radio is pretty much a basic radio, but it does work & I have buddies that race with it regularly.
The JR XR3 is a good choice & it will operate the shift servo with the 3rd channel.
1 thing about what Chris said (Chris! you know better!), you don't plug a reciever pack into the EVX Speed controller, you plug it into Batt slot on the reciever!
rustlerkid 02-08-2005, 05:54 PM we just got back from the hobby shop and they put in a high torque servo and it works now. I dont know how long that will last but for now it will do if we have any other probs with it we will post again thanks for all the tips guys.
OvalmanPA 02-08-2005, 07:45 PM Just out of curiousity, what was the "high torque" servo the shop put in for you?
rustlerkid 02-08-2005, 08:26 PM it was a traxxas servo and its my friends truck not mine i have a rustler. Im not sure that is what servo he ended up putting in it though i was in the back room figuring out a gear ratio. But what ever it was it worked it was a high torque one though.

DOH! Hey, if he can find a batt slot in the EVX, I think he SHOULD plug it in there! :)
rustlerkid 02-08-2005, 08:50 PM hey im a rustler guy i have no idea what an evx is can u explain please
tommckay 02-09-2005, 08:22 AM EVX is the type of Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) in the E-Maxx.
rustlerkid 02-09-2005, 10:03 PM oh ok whats a good esp for a e-maxx.
ChrisHarris 02-09-2005, 11:09 PM The EVX ESC is top notch. It is one of very few that will allow you to run to battery packs. Most ESCs are designed to run on 7.2-8.4 volts while the EVX will put up with 16.8!!! That allows the Maxx to use the dual motors it does. Normal motors would died a quick death with those voltages.
