View Full Version : St. Patrick's Day Race @ Thunder Road,Va.
Team Beaver 01-27-2005, 04:28 PM March 12 th
It's a great racing track with a great bunch of racers. Ernie the track owner will be giving away $1,000 in cash and some prices. He will also be giving away a new KSG ride. Last couple times I've raced there I've walked away with a good amount of cash. Thanks Ernie
Check it out on the web:

Ernie P. 01-30-2005, 12:18 AM Thanks for the endorsement, Chris. We always enjoy having you and your crew at Thunder Road. I'm hoping that putting $1,000.00 in cash and prizes, including a brand new KSG chassis, on the line will drum up some competition for you! At the rate you're carrying away my money, I can list you on my tax return as a dependent! (-: I'm looking forward to a GREAT race. Thanks; Ernie P.
Bill Auchterlonie 01-30-2005, 07:44 AM Man, how can I ignore this candy. I cant. Looks like I'm going to make the trek again. Ernie you are without a doubt doing everything you can to promote interest to your track and r/c racing. You may go broke in doing so but WOW when you do something you do it RIGHT. Its a shame you are 190 miles away or I would be a weekly racer there. Your probably thinking to yourself thank God its 190 miles.
Chris, this time you will be layed to rest by the UNDERTAKER. :-) Good luck to you and Jeff in Florida and have a safe trip. I bet Jeff has been burning the candle late into the night getting things ready while you watch Letterman.
Ernie P. 01-30-2005, 11:25 AM Bill; thanks for the nice words. I'm just doing whatever seems to be best for the racers. I figure if I take care of the racers, they'll take care of me. I'm glad to hear you'll be coming down to take a shot at Chris. So far, he seems to be just that little bit ahead of every one. He's been pushed hard; he's been trailing in the early going; and he's been lucky a few times. But, so far, he just keeps smiling and taking my money. (-:
You are welcome at Thunder Road any time, my friend. Please call me tonight at (540) 439-6085. I have an idea I think you'll like. Thanks; Ernie P.
RHINO MTRSPORTZ 01-30-2005, 12:38 PM Hey this is what I love, people after me. It wouldn't be fun inless we had good competition. Plus this only makes me go faster cause they will. 5 more days and I'm heading to sunny FL. Jazzy and I have never been so ready for a race.We have are stable of cars and are V. V=VOLTZ for those who don't know. Well see some of you in FL. and the rest of you I'll see you March 12th.
Downs and I are going to promote this race at the Birds, so maybe we can get a couple more heads?
Peace,
Rhino
Ernie P. 01-31-2005, 07:49 PM Thanks for the help in getting the word out, Chris. A little more competition at Thunder Road never hurts; especially with you being on a tear like you have lately. Bill Auchterlonie is going to join the dozen or more already gunning for you, that you already know about, come the big race on March 12th. Surely Ritchie, Steve, Lin, Matt, Clay, Jesse or *some one* can find a couple of tenths! You've got your work cut out for you!
Good luck in Florida; because you're gonna need it when you get back the the Troad! Thanks; Ernie P.
Ernie P. 02-15-2005, 11:22 PM Well, now that all this distraction over that race down in Florida (where our regulars did vey well, indeed!!) is over, we can all get back to concentrating on the important stuff. Like MONEY! $1,000.00 of it to be exact. Plan to attend Thunder Road's Saint Patrick's Day "Race for the Green" on March 12th; or some one else will be picking up your check! And if you plan on taking home the big check, you'd best be ready for some stiff competition. This is going to be a fast one. Thanks; Ernie P.
Ernie P. 02-22-2005, 05:26 AM Our "Race for the Green" on March 12th, is now designated as a "qualifier" for The Invitational. That means that if you run on the 12th, you are qualified for the Semi's for The Invitational.
A brand new KSG chassis as a door prize; $1,000.00 in cash on the line; door prizes galore; great competition and qualified for The Invitational! What more could you want? Thanks; Ernie P.
McLin 02-22-2005, 09:14 AM The Invitational at Cooper’s RC Race Center will be run in three parts; Qualifiers, Semi’s and then The Invitational. You have to run in at least one Qualifier and one Semi to be able to qualify for the Invitational.
Thunder Road has chosen to run their Qualifier in conjunction with the St. Patrick’s Day race on March 12th. This means that everyone that competes in that race will be qualified to move to the next tier and run in any of the Semi Races throughout the summer. Once you race in any of the Semi races, you qualify for The Invitational at Cooper’s at the end of the summer.
In The Invitational, 19t and Open Modified will run for cash. The Stock and Nitro class will run for a One Year Sponsorship with companies to be announced.
Spec and Legends will race for trophies.
Thanks to everyone at Thunder Road for adding this to their race program on March 12th. See Ya There!
Todd Hochney 02-22-2005, 09:38 AM Rhino will be defeated March 12.
McLin 02-22-2005, 04:40 PM Chris, you gonna take that????
Ernie P. 02-22-2005, 11:40 PM At our big Saint Patrick's Day event, "The Race for the Green" (as in $1,000.00 cash on the line), we will also be giving away, as a door prize, a brand new KSG chassis kit.
Well, none other than Steve Downs, his ownself, will be presenting a one-hour seminar on the proper way to set up the Associated front end for the KSG chassis. In addition, Steve will give some tips on setting up a chassis to run fast, at Thunder Road.
Don't miss this chance to learn from a "master" (and I say that in all sincerity; Steve *IS* a Master builder and racer), how to properly set your chassis up for short track carpet racing! The Seminar will begin at 10:00 on Saturday, March 12th. Be there! Thanks; Ernie P.
myers423 02-23-2005, 12:03 AM could somebody give me directions to the track. I will be there for the money!!!!!! THANKS
Ernie P. 02-23-2005, 05:23 AM The easiest way is to go to the Thunder Road website, thunderroadrc.com, and check the directions posted on the front page. If you need any help beyond that, please contact me through the website, e-mail, or here. We're looking forward to seeing you at the Race for the Green; and will do anything we can to assist. Thanks; Ernie P.
Will it be a one day race or two?
Team Beaver 02-23-2005, 01:50 PM Andy it will only be a one day race. I hope that I will be able to make it just to beat Todd Hochney (who is that?) . I have to go to N.C to pick up my equipment from Jazzy's house if I want to race. Jazzy will not be able to make it due to being on the road.
Peace,
Rhino
Any hotels in the area?Whats the run line of the track, and does the carpet have good grip?
Thanks Andy

Ernie P. 02-25-2005, 08:44 PM It looks like this is going to be one *GREAT* race. A real crowd of top racers; some big door prizes; and a big pile of money on the line. We're looking forward to meeting all of you on March the 12th; at The Saint Patrick's Day Race for the Green. If we can do anything to assist you, please let us know. Thanks; Ernie P.
Ernie P. 02-27-2005, 08:23 AM Please be aware Thunder Road is supporting the "RC Cars for the Troops" effort, to send RC cars and parts to our troops serving in Iraq. We have an RC racer who has been called to active duty in Iraq. He is handling things on that end; organizg things through the base's Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) section. When he rotates back to the states, the stuff will be left for the troops still there.
There is an big effort underway to send radio control cars and parts to the troops over there; and Thunder Road is fully behind the effort. So, when you show up for our big "Saint Patrick's Day Race for the Green" event, on March 12th, please bring along any cars, transmitters and RC parts you can spare. We will have a BIG box set up to collect the stuff you donate. If you don't have any parts you can spare, you can still donate cash to help cover the shipping costs.
This is a joint effort between a lot of people and several RC tracks. Please support our attempts to show the troops over there that they have not been forgotten. Thanks; Ernie P.
Ernie P. 03-01-2005, 05:17 AM This weekend's weekly race is your last chance to race at Thunder Road before our big Saint Patrick's Day Race for the Green. The best practice for racing is racing!
$1,000.00 in cash on the line. Numerous door prizes; including a brand new KSG chassis. A seminar on setting up the Associated front end. And, some of the best competition on the East Coast! Be there! Thanks; Ernie P.
Team Beaver 03-02-2005, 12:08 PM Roll Call , who all is going to be at this race on the 12th? Steve Wallace and I will be coming down for the show down. Jazzy will not be able to make it.
Look forward to racing with everyone again,
Rhino
McLin 03-07-2005, 07:31 PM Chris, sorry i missed your roll call, I don't like this section hidden away like this I forget to check it.
Let's see, Downs is coming, so is Gary Warren, Rick Talbot and MEEEEE! LOL
I haven't heard anything from the Sandhills bunch but I hope they make it too. I can't see Ritchie staying away from a $1000 Purse! LOL
Ernie P. 03-08-2005, 05:17 AM The Saint Patrick's Day "Race for the Green" race will be run this weekend at Thunder Road RC Speedway, Gordonsville, VA.
We will have over $1,000.00 in cash on the line; as well as door prizes, to include a brand new KSG Chassis Kit. If you enter two classes, you will have two chances to win a door prize!
There will be a seminar, presented by Steve Downs, on the correct way to build the Associated Front End; and how to setup the KSG Chassis for a short track carpet track.
The racing is going to be hot and furious; and Thunder Road will be open, starting at 9:00 AM, on Friday, March 11th, to allow out of town racers to dial in their cars before Saturday's race.
This is going to be a big one; so make your plans to be there. Thanks; Ernie P.
Jim Rufiange 03-08-2005, 12:57 PM What classes are the 'big dogs' runnin'? 19T?
Team Beaver 03-08-2005, 01:21 PM Both Stock and 19T
Ernie P. 03-08-2005, 09:30 PM Chris is correct. It looks like Stock will be the biggest draw; with a good field of 19-Turn racers. There will be a good field of Legends; and a few Spec Class racers. Check out "thunderroadrc.com" for details; or e-mail me at Thunder_Road_RC@hotmail.com. Thanks; Ernie P.
Ernie P. 03-10-2005, 05:28 PM Thunder Road will be open from 9:00 AM until..., tomorrow, Friday, March 11th. This so out of town racers will have ample opportunity to get ready for the Race for the Green on Saturday. See you there! Thanks; Ernie P.
Ernie P. 03-12-2005, 08:16 AM Well, today is the showdown for the cash! Lin Vaughan, Steve Downs, Gary Warren and Jesse Bean were all looking pretty racy in practice yesterday; and I think they will all take home some cash in the 19-Turn Open and Stock Classes. This will be a fast one; and I hope to see *you* at Thunder Road RC Speedway, today. Thanks; Ernie P.
Ernie P. 03-13-2005, 12:21 PM The Race for the Green was an example of a mixed bag, as far as results went. We had a poor turnout from a numbers standpoint. Apparently, the stiff competition scared away a lot of racers; but we had some great competition from those locals who did show.
The RC's for the Troops picked up some donations; including a great effort from Jaco/SMC. We'll be getting the stuff shipped as soon as we can; and any contributions for the shipping will be appreciated.
Our Rent A Ride program is ready to move; and we have a couple of complete cars and accessory kits ready for sale. The Used Car Lot is also in use; and a few used chassis' are on the shelf.
Lin will be posting the results of the Race for the Green, so I'll leave that alone; but I do want to draw attention to a couple of great efforts by our local racers.
Harold Ruckle is really starting to mature as a driver and wrench. He beat out an admittedly thin field of Spec racers to win the Class; in a really first class effort on his part. Harold had things pretty much under control all night; and looked very controlled and intent. Harold's Stock Class efforts have looked very professional lately; and he's making some real progress as a driver.
Steve Kritikakos (Kritter) put together a Legends car that won, first time out. With wrenching and driving tips from Larry Boyd, it was a great first effort; that gave him a win over a very tough field that included a great job by local Jesse Bean and the whole Traveling Circus of Legends drivers. A first rate effort and driving job. Jesse had things under control for most of the race, but ran into traffic late in the race. Kritter was running a very controlled race; and was right there when Jesse ran into (literally) trouble.
Jesse Bean put up a good show in both Stock and 19-Turn; and often looked the class of the field in legends. The results might not show it, but he was right there all night; and might well have shown much better in all three classes, with a bit of luck.
Lin will post the complete results; I just wanted to complement our weekly drivers for a great effort on their part. Thanks; Ernie P.
