How many episodes were there in the Animated Star Trek series?

Any news on how many discs, and what the set will cost?

I checked Amazon.ca but they don't have it for preorder yet.

James :)

22 episodes. They're numbered 1-23, with one number missing somewhere in the 'teens, for some unknown reason.

Number of discs - no info yet, but knowing Paramount, they'll either stretch it out over as many discs as they can to jack up the price or squash them onto as few discs as possible to be cheap.

I have them all on LaserDisc.

They're fun to watch. Much better than most, if not all Saturday morning fare produced nowadays. Much better than most live-action shows produced nowadays. Come to think of it.

Except "B.E.M." God, that's a silly episode. (and not in a good way)
"Kirk to Entity, Kirk to Entity..."

The anti-matter universe episode was kind o' ridiculous, too. The only way it made sense was the way David Gerrold combined it with another episode in the novelizations to show that it wasn't real.

Otherwise, I really dig TAS.

... is it as good as SuperFriends? I don't see how it could be as good as SuperFriends.;)

Actually, the novelizations were written by Alan Dean Foster. And he didn't combine it with a new episode, he just added to the story, like he did with all his adaptions.

For those who haven't seen them, keep in mind that it is a Filmation show from the early 70's with limited animation. What's best is that it features the voice talents of (most of) the original cast. Some of the stories are quite good, while others are of the "Space:1999" variety in quality.

TAS is my second favorite, after TOS. I like the sequels from TOS. Tribbles, Shore leave planet, Harry Mudd, the Guardian. Being able to see more of Vulcan, new ships, New alien races, new planets and Captain April. And do not forget, the first time the holodeck was seen.

I only ever saw it in it's original run (I must've been about 12 or so) and thinking some of them were almost as good as TOS while others were just ridiculous.

After all these years, I'd kinda like to see 'em again. I'd heard some pretty impressive sci-fi authors wrote for the show.

. . . And do not forget, the first time the holodeck was seen.

It sort of ticced me off that no one brought this up when ST:TNG was in development. Everyone acted like it was such a novel idea & c. I was more than familiar with the concept from the TAS episode so it seemed like not such a big deal. Too bad they let it become sort of a crutch during some of the series' so that the stories involving it were often hackneyed and silly.

Not bad for a show that is not considered CANON!

I have always considered TOS 1-3 of the 5 year mission, and TAS as 4 and 5 of the 5 year mission.

I've seen the set at cons ...they go for about $40..

I have the collection on video and I'm going to transfer them to dvd soon, I have to make room....If your intrested in the original videos let me Know.....

Supposedly, Kirk had been in command for a year when Trek started, so TOS is actually years 2,3 and 4 of the 5-year mission. Supposedly.

If you go by Kirk's bio in The Making of Star Trek he may have commanded the ship for perhaps two years prior to the regular 1st season episodes (the book was published after 2nd season). WNMHGB is a bit of an anomaly with the costumes and look of the ship more alike the Pike era, possibly suggesting Kirk took command before the ship was refit and then embarked on its 5-year voyage.

Anyways, even with the few silly episodes, I'm really looking forward to a TAS box set.
