View Full Version : Help me choose a new truck!!!
TheMoose 01-25-2005, 05:22 PM There are more Revos at my local tracks than anything but 1/8th & 1/10th monster trucks run in the same class so the Losi LST & Associated Monster GT are the domanant trucks in the winner circle.
I'm guessing the added displacement (.26 vs .15) is the deciding factor as much as anything else.
My question is even though the 1/8 scale trucks have more power from thier big blocks would adding an OS .18 TZ make the Revo as fast or faster than the 1/8th trucks??
The OS I'm thinking about has 2.3 HP, the same or more than the big block trucks do, since the Revo is lighter & has better suspension, the addition of the OS should put the Revo back on top.

It's got a lot of power for $179!!
What do you think???
RCMits 01-26-2005, 05:14 PM <side question> is the -themoose- from socal.. or....
David Washburn 01-26-2005, 08:10 PM in my view i would go with the revo or the monster Gt, or even a savage they are pretty good trucks
DJ1978 01-27-2005, 08:33 AM All of these vehicles have abundant power. I am sure that driver skill and set up ability play in more than you are taking into account. Depending on the track layout.
Are these larger trucks winning by 3 or 4 laps??? You did not say the difference in the finish times or laps.
As an example.
Our top driver at our track picked up a Duratrax Evader cheap. Put his electronics in it and a good stock motor and destroyed the stock truck TQ time by 5 seconds on his first time on the track. He has TQ'd most and won every race with the Evader.
TOYMINATOR 01-27-2005, 09:22 AM in my view i would go with the revo or the monster Gt, or even a savage they are pretty good trucksMr.Washburn what about my E-Maxx? I haven't got to run it with gassers yett bit indoors onthe carpet it flys, get a E-Maxx and Novak HV MAXX Brushless. The only up grade you will really need to do is a robinson dual slipper clutch with extra pads and rear c.v.d.'s. stock gearing is insainley fast. Almost no maintenence and no fuel to buy. It is so fast it pulls wheelies at the end of the strait-away indoors,I have never been able to use high gear indoors because the tires get almost twice their normal size in diamater. This truck is very fun to drive. :thumbsup:Also it is a tank(hard to break) and with the brushless it is always fast you dont have to tune it. No grease and oil all over everything.
David Washburn 01-27-2005, 10:33 PM it is fast yea, but not faster than a gas monster also u blew put a slipper and only ran the truck 5 times that is no fun, also didn't u break 2 or 3 axels, yea sure u can put cvd's throught out the whole thing but then the weakest point will be the diff, then u go and make than aluminum and start blowing trannies, so u will prolly have to put a good 300 to 600 in the truck to stop breaking drive train, and by the time u get all of that done the tranny and the diff will slow the truck way down cause they are heavy and inefficent, so u are better getting a gas monster that u know will take the power and that. also do u even know if they will let u run the electric monsters with the gas or if there is a MODIFIED eletric monster class there
Derek Tilley 01-29-2005, 12:49 AM I am trying to sell my Monster GT for $300 OBO. it has a full roll cage, new body, and a Titanium front bumper
TeamAE_Pace 01-29-2005, 01:15 PM Well here is my two cents, take it as you will.
When getting into monster truck racing, go with what you feel is the best because all the top monster trucks like the LST, Revo, Savage, and MGT are all good trucks and if you as the driver feels its the right truck for you and not because everyone at the track drives it, it usualy works out better for ya.
I would not instantly get a motor for any of the trucks as my first upgrade, that is where most mess up at, when you put a big motor in you instantly asking for stuff to go wrong just get use to the truck. The first two upgrades i would go with on any of the three is a good set of tires and a Torque Servo right off the bat. That servo does alot to the steering, even if you go with the LST or revo there are websites out there that shows how to make it a single servo system so you can put on servos like the Airtronic's 359 or the hitec 945. As far as other upgrades there are plenty of sites for each truck i mentioned, I would go there and look to see how other racers upgraded there trucks. And remember the biggest thing of all is to have fun no matter what you go with.

P.S. I personaly race a Savage, even though over half the people up here own Revos and LST's.
erik z 02-08-2005, 10:16 PM i like my twin force with the brushless 1/8 scale truck so i think it will hold up to the power of brushlless i charged my 2400 batteries ran it for 20 min and still had same power had to stop playin break time was over lol

I personally would go for a savage and stick a .46 engine in it with a couple of other modifications. Then people would look and take notice.

jlgaj65 03-11-2005, 06:42 AM i have a mamouth xtm with the 247 moter in it and my buddy,s cant keep up with it.it dose 52mph right out of the box .and for climbing and and jumping the tires it comes with get a good bite .I have no complaints except the body it comes with .
ifyou are looking for a racing monster truck look what the pros ran in mays edition of xrc mag. at the dirt nitro challenge. no one had traxxas or lst. they used something like hot bodies stadium racer. its a 1/8 scale truck. just to look at it you know it will perform at the track. but as for a great all around truck that will race and have fun bashing is the new savage 4.6. Do not get the .46. The truckzilla .46 is hard to tune and the rpm's do not lend itself to a racing enviroment. tons of power just not at track. plus added weight. ultimately the choice is yours and you need to pick the truck you know you'll love.
starluckrc 04-08-2005, 02:38 PM Lightning Stadium is THE nitro truck for the track right now. I run a brushless electric truck off of that platform.....best of both worlds.
xxxkat 05-14-2005, 01:27 PM I would go with a truggy for racing,Hot Bodies,GS or one of the newer Mugen conversions.Yes you can make a Revo very fast but it also costs cubic bucks to do this.I own a Lightning Stadium Pro and IMO for the money it's hard to beat.. Due to the fact that i'm opening an indoor carpet track I'm selling mine..For details PM me.
