I'm racing in two weeks time on an oval with 20-30' long straightaways.
Which of the two stock gears should I use in my SRT? To avoid a confusing description just tell me how many teeth it should have.

Thank you very much - DEANE

Take axles with both gears and try them both...

Older Tomy Turbo cars came with 7/22 gearing. I think the newer SRT's come with 7/25. The 7/22 will give you more top end(which would be good on a track of that size). The 7/25 will give you better exceleration off of the corners but less top end.

Bummer, stock gears only. Go with the 7/22.

Given a better choice, and with straights like that, I'd start a BSRT 8/23 combo and work from there.

I have now found out the shortest straight will be about that.

The longest one will be - 45 feet ! :)

Wow.Sound like fun.You can really run the magnet cars full out on a setup like that!!! The track marshalls must have to wear hard hats so they don't get knocked out by the cars when they de-slot.

we will also be running an oval for 1/32nd scale & 1/24th scale cars as well as a small track for 1/43rd scale...

If someone here reminds me I'll post a slew of pictures.

 Looks like everyone has tons o fun

Just curious, the photo with all the cars lined up in the lanes, there are 4 Mini Coopers, did some one make these? If so who and how do I get ahold of them...

Thanks.

Wow! Where was that event held and who put it on? Looks like a gymnasium.

What were some of the lap times?

Guys,
The event was held in an ordinary local hall, but certainly a big one by UK standards.
It was a real blast, 95' of non-stop action per lap, Lap record was 4.29 seconds.
The Minis are by Micro Scalextric and are all over ePay. As you can see the scale is a little off (!) , they only look the nads racing against each other.
This summer Micro Scalex will be doing the new Movie Batmobile!!!

I'm very intrigued by the large format temporary racing circuits that you folks do over in the UK. I'm wondering why such a highly compelling form of racing hasn't caught on in the US?

me too!

Small cars, big venues - it seems an obvious way to go about things building a huge track.

But then it does take 6 hours to set up and tear down!

Hey Montoya1,

How bout some details on the track? What type of plastic track was used?? Was it attached to anything other than just lying on the table? How many power taps and what powered this monster? It is a pretty cool concept putting a large temporary track together for a race.

Hi Roger,

You are the guy who does those amazing resin bodies, right? Actually 2005 is the year that EAHORC will be trying to spread it's 'bigtrax' concept to the rest of the globe, hence the pictures posted here.

I'm sure, giving enough of a push by the right people, what Jim Kelly and I do could be taken by people in the States and ran with, taken even further than we have. If that happened we would not be happier.

The track had 3 power jumpers, being the shortest track we have done (95') that was more than adequate, sometimes we use 4-5 of them.

We use dedicated power supplies running at 22v, 2.5 amps - more than enough for the very stock classes we run (but then, even a stock Tomy Turbo loooks pretty darn special when it has a 45' straight to kick along!!). We used one for two lanes this time, but we use one per lane when the tracks get 160-220' long

The track is Tomy with Lupico 18'' curves on some of our bigger tracks. Some of the corners are hand cut from AFX pieces, in fact all the corners on that oval were bespoke.

The corners were mounted on MDF banking for quick assembly and are screwed down to it. The rest of the track just sits direct on the tables and is taped together every yard or so.

I hope in a few years to see this concept all over, that would be cool - some kind of lasting lecacy!

Have a nice evening - Deane
