As well as racing 1/10 oval, I spend most of my time in a recording studio. I was interested in building a new desktop for the studio here are the specs on my current computer I use for mobile recording:

Toshiba Satellite 17"

Speed: 2.8ghz
Ram: 512mb
HD: 80G (5200rpm)

It workd pretty well for what I am doing:

1 to 16 simultaneous channels of audio @96k (firewire)

With the desktop, I would most likely use PCI

Most important question:

Dual or single processors?

Which processor?

I need about 768mb-1G or RAM

You will have to use XP Pro or Windows 2000 and audio software that is dual processor aware to come close to make it worth the cost of a dual processor system.
