View Full Version : TRC tires, bad glue job this year....
Lester24 01-22-2005, 03:54 PM I have been racing oval for 15 years and am a 13 time series champ at our local tracks, I have run nothing but TRC tires the whole time. I have never had so many trc foam tires come unglued as I have this year. Especially in mod. if you chunk the edge just a little bit a huge chunk come out of the tire. You can see on the edge of the tire there is only glue for like the first 1/4 inch orso and then no glue at all for the next half inch. Its like the glue is put on in little stripes. When TRC tires were on the black rims, if you chunked a tire, you'd still see a little bit of foam attached to the rim cause they were glued so well, now the foam just comes right off. Doesn't take a bad crash either just a brush of the pvc pipe. Not to mention in mod, it seems like some of the tires that aren't chunked develope a little bit of vibration, probably from coming unglued in the middle. My Rc gang I've been racing with for years bought anywhere from 5 to 10 sets each and they are all ending up the same. I'm just curious to know if any of you fellow racers are having any similar trouble. I see that the tires are now made in italy, I wonder if the italians are trying to conserve glue or what. Not trying to bash TRC as I have been very loyal to them and they are the only tire I like, but I can't keep having all these tires coming unglued and wasting money. I've come to expect better quality from them over the years. Have a tire lathe I can use, would like to just mount my own, but now they arent selling donuts. So anyway, TRC if you read this, please start glueing tires better or start selling us donuts.
would like to hear from any other racers that have been having the same trouble.
Thanks,
Les O'Dell

davepull 01-23-2005, 12:47 AM I would like to add check out the rc4less tires. they are great. plus can't beat the price.

Lester24 01-23-2005, 07:41 AM Thanks for the advice dave, I get my bearings, brushes, motor drops and lots of other things from bruce at RC4Less. He has good deals and is a heck of a nice guy to deal with. We did test a set at my track and they weren't quite what I was looking for compound wise. Plus I really don't care for the orange rims. If TRC doesn't get any better, I might buy some donuts from bruce in various compounds, mount them myself and do some testing. When, I raced in omaha, some of the guys were running TM's and seemed to like them. Would be interested in trying them, but nobody stocks them out here, would have to find a place to order online.
Thanks,
Lester
Les you may want to try out Rob Murdock's tires also.
jmracing 01-23-2005, 09:30 AM pepe all i can say about rob's tires is  awesome!
burbs 01-23-2005, 12:26 PM http://www.baldwinracing.safeshopper.com/ you can get tm tires here.... there suposedly alot of the same foams as trc.... ive seen no complaints.... i love them to..so do many many fast guys...
MURDOCKRC 01-23-2005, 01:03 PM Thanks Pepe. We sure try to make you guys a great tire. Pealing off the rim is a non issue here and our rim is the key. It is smaller, lighter, a ton more durable and has been proven to be faster in most cases. No one has ever come to me with the complaint that they have peeled for no reason. That is not to say it couldnt happen because it could with all of us manufactures depending on the reason or race conditions. Soaking your tires in compound can cause peeling as well guys so keep that in mind. I have the compounds you all know that work and work with speed. Keep us in mind for your future tire needs. Oh, and dont forget. You buy tires from MURDOCK R/C & PERFORMANCE in singles, pairs, or performance packs (4 tires of choice) at NO additional cost. Excellent choice for saving money. Lester24 01-23-2005, 02:19 PM Thanks for all the great advice everybody. My next question is..... are the TM compounds comparable to the TRC. If I like a white rear in TRC would I want a White TM????
Thanks,
Lester
kawa62684 01-23-2005, 08:26 PM A 13 time series champ should not be chunking tires
"Frank Ulbrik" 01-23-2005, 08:42 PM If ya want a good starting point for T.M. tires PM me with what class your running & I'll see if I can get ya close.
RCRacer45s 01-23-2005, 09:20 PM RC4Less tires are the way to go. They are a very good tire and you will barely see them chunk and if you do part of the foam is still stuck to the rim which means its not the tires fault you just slammed something pretty good. I have never seen a cracked rim or even heard of one on the net. And they perform better than any other tire i have used. Did i mention the price 17 for rears and 14 for fronts and thats even for the exotics cant beat that anywhere. I love the orange rims but if you dont like them you can always buy wheel dots.
burbs 01-23-2005, 11:41 PM from the info i have gathered since running them, is they are very similar to trc... i had heard trc and tm get there foam from the same place.. but only tony knows for sure...
also TM tires do not cucnk very easily.. it takes a bad wreck, or something tearing them.. they dont just chunk from running.. the rims dont flex as much as the rest..and last a long time.. and ive never had a glue issue...
philb1 01-24-2005, 07:35 AM Hi Lester! If you can't do the orange rims, T.M. s are a awesome tire too! They should be close to the trc compounds. Am sure Frank can get you set up.
Hope to get a chance to race with you again!
Lester24 01-24-2005, 03:59 PM Hey Phil, how's it going? good to hear from ya, I was in omaha for a few weeks earlier in the year and tried to get ahold of you but couldn't. I was able to stop by and check out the hobbyplex for a few short minutes. What a facility!!!! WOW. I'll try to make a race sometime this year if I can.
kawa62684, I agree that I shouldn't be chunking tires, but If you've ever raced 6 cell mod pan before, you'd know that there are some wrecks that are just unavoidable no matter how good you are or how conseravative you drive. One wreck I lost a tire in last week was a 4 car pile up right in front of me.
Frank, thanks alot, I'll definatly be contacting you sometime in the next few weeks, I'm gonna use up the rest of the TRC's I got, then order some tires of a different brand. Can't decide between TM and Murdock or Donuts, from RC4Less, definatly be one of the 3.
Thanks Everyone for listening to me complain and for your input.
Lester
dave w 01-24-2005, 05:11 PM HOW ABOUGHT BSR?
Lester24 01-24-2005, 10:07 PM A bunch of us have tried BSR's at our track and haven't been able to hook up with them. Unfortunatly our track isn't real ozite. When we did race at another location that did ave ozite, the BSR's did work alot better than they did at our club. I like the bsr rims, but do the tire seams still go the opposite direction as everyone elses tires??? Didn't care for that. It has been probably 5 years since any of us have tried them. They might be awesome these days for all we know. But with the trouble TRC is giving us, alot of us are looking for other options. I like white rear, blue front in a trc, so what compound would I want to try in a BSR?
Lester
tfrahm 01-25-2005, 12:07 AM Ignore the objection to the orange rims -- go with RC4Less tires -- you will NOT regret it... If TRC white rears work for you, I'd say try either RC4Less Whites or Tans would work great (I'd start with Tan)... For the front, RC4Less Hard Blacks are great -- if you need more steering, put a Gray on the LF....
Our local carpet track is "office" style carpet, and pretty "free"... I'm running Gray LF, HBlack RF, Tan LR, and Black RR and doing FANTASTIC!
BHayes 01-25-2005, 07:39 AM Lester24, alot has changed with the BSR tires in the last 5 years. The new owner of the company has made many improvements. The seams no longer go across the tire. And they have a wide range of compounds to work with. You can get a description of all the compounds on the web site www.bsr-racing.com I am sure you could find a combination that would work at your track.
Lester24 01-25-2005, 07:47 AM Thanks for the great advice everybody. I'll check out that BSR website.

bsrs dont go that way anymore much improved check out the web site !
JPG333 01-26-2005, 06:33 PM I agree w/ Lester24. Since TRC started mounting tires on the new yellow rims they have gone to complete crap! I do not over soak my tires in traction compound and I have been out in front leading a 6 cell modified event and all of the sudden the right rear tire comes unglued on the outer bead, And this happends without even bumping into anything. It is unreal and it seems like TRC should sell a tube of superglue with every set of rear tires because eventually you will need one. The problem is that TRC does a poor job of glueing their premounted tires and if you have a little tire seperation it is only a few laps before half of the tire is coming off of the rim. I have been running oval for about 12 years and this year I have spent $250 alone on tires. All of the sets I have purchased this year had this problem. Wish TRC still sold donuts I would just mount my own. Maybe I will try TM tires or getting some donuts from Bruce at RC4less.
The thing that really upsets me with this deal is that in Oval having a quality tire is really important and less experienced drivers that don't have the budget to keep buying tires get frustrated and this problem w/ TRC has really hurt car count in our class this year. They used to have a quality product you could depend on. This year they have let their loyal customers down and next year after 12 years of buying their products, this is one customer they will be loosing.
JPG333 01-28-2005, 12:46 PM bump.
Lester24 02-01-2005, 03:46 AM Well, I just opened 2 more sets of white rears from TRC, from my exsisting stock bought at the begining of the year. I set them on the table, measured them with a $90 set of digital calipers and here is what they measured...... straight out of the box!!!!!!!!
2.355, 2.371, 2.389 and the big one... 2.412!!
Guess I have some stagger now. LOL,
Lester
philb1 02-01-2005, 07:32 AM TRC is just trying to help you out! Have not run any TRC tires forever so comparison is subject to opinion=
After a sunday and weds of roadcourse the oval groove here is sketchy at first, BSRs still hook up and get faster as the groove improves, whites and silvers.
Have good traction with Bruce's tires too, whites and black or hard black.
T.M., G5 rears and hard blacks.
Good Luck Les!
kawa62684 02-03-2005, 09:40 PM lester many tire companies have odd sized tires out of the box...TRUE them, they will be harder to chunk
