View Full Version : 3rd Annual Jeff Sears Memorial Race
racin rudy 01-21-2005, 05:05 AM March 12th is the day to be at this track!!! Its a day to honor the man who played a big part in starting this great hobby in Plattsburgh, New York.
Event schedule is as follows:
Friday March 11th practice from 5:00pm 'til ???
Saturday March 12th doors open at 7:00am (if they even close on Friday) and racing starts at 1:00pm sharp, with no break in between rounds and NO reshuffleing.
Registration closes Saturday at 12 noon (maybe earlier). Please send an email to Dan Dubuque (aka Mightmidget) or myself to confirm your presence. We do have limited seating and we will inform you on our maximum number very soon.
For those who dont know the track, it's 87 ft racing groove, 24'x53'. Yep thats right, I said 87, some of the best short track racing in the Northeast for a roll-out carpet.

mhawk11 02-01-2005, 11:51 AM hey guy's, the nastruck racers in massena here are wondering what they need for the sportsman class... do they need nascar bodies, can they run their nastruck bodies,do they run different motors,????
the nastruck rules here are...
1). no higher than 1.165 @30 amp,or 1.150 @35 amp. 3300 batteries.
2). the "monster type" hand out motor, any brush but no timing allowed.
3). nastruck bodies, 1" max spoiler
these rules were made to keep the cost down, if there is a better way we are always open to suggestions.
but the nastruck guy's are coming to the memorial race, they just wanna know what they need to be legal for the race.
thanks,
junior barnes
r/c world & raceway
mightymidget 02-01-2005, 01:34 PM Jr,the rules for the sportsman is any closed wheel body, our own handout motors,a 1.40 rollout max,116 or 120 spur only.the weight is the same as pro 2.6 and chassy height 3 mm,the nastruck bodies are legal.
Dan

mhawk11 02-02-2005, 12:19 AM just to let those know... along time ago i wasn't a very good r/c driver (who am i kidding i still aint) and i went to plattsburgh because i would race anywhere i could!!
well i ended up racing with the Sears girls alot, and if you ask them they'll say they crashed and messed up alot, but the truth is they used to spank me... it took me a few weeks to get to where i could even keep up with the girls. i don't know if everyone remembers or even wants to remember their rookie years, but i do because it was fun... so if the girls who i used to have fun racing with want cars to use, well then i got cars for them to use. it was alot of fun, i was 19 and they were around 12 & 14 ??
i just wanted to share that, so the new guy's can see where i'm coming from, or maybe i should say where WE came from.

ovalmaster 02-02-2005, 01:57 AM 10 years already? Many of us would not be racing today if it was not for Jeff Sears. He was a great competitor and always a gentleman on the track. He was more than a race Promoter but he was a Mentor for me and many others. To this day I try to make him proud on and off the track.
As for his girls, he always wanted the best for them.
This race is very special to many. It would be nice to see some old time racers make a comeback for this memorial event.
Let's see if we can find the following racers to attend:
- Charlie Hager
- Tim Stanton
- Lee Carter
- Danny "Flagg" Drapeau
- Pat " the chair kicker" Corchesne
- Andre "Mr. Excitment" Boyer
If you can contact any of these racers or any of which I have missed, it would help pay tribute to Jeff.
Antonio De Nino
mightymidget 02-02-2005, 06:08 PM I agree Tony,Jeff was more than just another racer,he was someone we all looked up to and wanted drive like, man that guy was good, there was only a few of us from the old gang that didn't stop racing after Jeff passed away, for myself i kept going and when there was no track in Plattsburgh, i traveled, now we have a track and we are honoring the man that made it all possible,Jeff we will never forget you,you we live in our memories and in our hearts for ever.i have so many memories of the old track,i really wish i could turn back time.this race has become bigger than i ever thought.it just goes to show what kind of impact Jeff had on all of us and when Justina won last year it was the most emotional victory i have ever witnessed.and a few days afterwards Howard called me to thank me for honoring his friend,it really meant alot to me.but the biggest compliment came from you tony when you told me that the Jeff Sears race was the best trophy race you attended last year.

wkbracing 02-02-2005, 08:43 PM Along time ago, when i was 14 or 15 years old I went to the vermont state oval championship they held at mike's hobbies in rutland vt when they had the indoor track, And I remember that Jeff had finished in second place in the A-main for two different classes. 6-cell pro pan car and 6-cell modified gearbox,
I thought that was pretty amazing when it was not a track he had ran at often and there were over 70 people in one class and around 55 in the other.
I am now 30 years old And I still remember thinking that he did a better job than the people who one the classes because he ran both and did great in both.
we would not miss this race for anything
