View Full Version : Dropstars? Or Playerz?
Ricky2400 01-19-2005, 02:56 PM I was in my local Target today and saw the HW Dropstarz....nice, but a little too big to be 1/64-scale. Then on another set of pegs I caught the Maisto Playerz. Now, THIS is more like 1/64! While the detailing on both the "Dropstars" and "Playerz" are excellent, I guess I'm biased toward cars that ACTUALLY are 1/64-scale--not cars purporting to be 1/64 but are actually 1/58 or 1/59.
Way to go, Maisto!!!

Pablodragon 01-19-2005, 09:47 PM the luxo-rides are not really my thing, but I am impressed by the detail..especially the inetriors..for a 1/64th scale! I really like JL for the detail and quality, but these Maistos are one up on the interiors.. and are about the same price...but are the bases on the 1/64th Playerz plastic or metal?
..on a side note, just picked up one of the Jada Big Time Muscle cars..the 69 Camaro...and on it's base they actually cast in "1/64th scale"...uh...I don't think so! it'sabout the size of the dropsters!
edseldave 01-20-2005, 01:22 AM Those Dropstars look closer to 1/43 scale to me ... The Players look bigger than most 1/64 cars to me too .... The only one I liked was the green Chrysler 300C .
32lowboy 01-21-2005, 09:53 AM The bases on the cars are metal, the H2 and G Wagon are plastic.
nobueno 01-21-2005, 04:29 PM Just an FYI. DROPSTARS do not list a scale on thier packaging. They are considered Small Scale(a term penned by Hot Wheels) and are close to a 1/50 scale.
stupidsquirrels 01-21-2005, 04:39 PM In my opinion, neither series is all that great, scales and details are off on both. My brother gave me the Playaz 300 & sl55, they just don't seem all that realistic to me.
I'm not wasting my money on either set.
oldpole 01-22-2005, 08:41 PM I was really impressed with the Playerz. Maybe because I spent about 15 years doing automotive paint, which I think was one of the high points on these castings. I was shocked by the interiors, since Maisto usually tries to avoid having to do interiors on their $1 cars. Actually, not that shocked.........Maisto usually puts more detail into the metal than other manufacturers. I knew they'd come up with a winner if they ever set their minds to compete with JL and HW.
What really made me laugh were the Hoodz cars which were hanging right next to the players. Talk about wrong directions! I guess that's what happens when you try to copy somebody instead of just doing what you do best.
Bugzy 01-28-2005, 08:47 PM Saw the Maisto Playerz for the first time this evening...
Scale is more like 1/64 scale...detail inside and out is great and I liked the wheels...
a little on the oversize...but that seems to be in...loved the Chrysler C300...!
pontiaccrest 01-29-2005, 12:24 AM They are HOT!!!!
D-68pontiac 01-29-2005, 01:59 AM the 300's are sweet! i also like the 1/64th limos.

UH NO!! the jada BTMs are not as big as the dropsters. the dropsters are 1/43 and the BTMs are 1/64. put two of them side by side...can you tell the difference? i can!! besides the dropsters are crap. just my 2 cents!!
Bugzy 01-29-2005, 03:51 PM The Jada BigTime Muscle 1/64 scale cars are smaller than the Dropsters...but a bit larger than the JLs...by about 1/4 inch longer...and narrow..not as wide as a Muscle Machine car..
and super cool...! IMO...
D-68pontiac 01-29-2005, 04:10 PM i didnt compare them side by side but the btm cars do look larger than 1/64th.they are very nice looking though. i didnt think the dropsters looked to bad either,i thought the mustangs were pretty cool.
