View Full Version : Zylmex VW Bus
ParkRNDL 01-18-2005, 09:59 PM I saw a Zylmex VW Bus not long ago at a little antiques/junk store, and I left it there, but it's been itching at the back of my mind. They wanted 3 or 4 bucks for it and it was kinda beat but all there. This place doesn't get much traffic, it had dust on it when I saw it, and I'd bet it's still there. Anybody know if this a hard-to-find piece and if it's worth a few bucks even with noticeable playwear, or will I probably find another in better shape fairly easily?
thanx--

Dave_anto364 01-19-2005, 08:01 AM Do you like it? If so, is it worth 3 to 4 bucks to you. A new JL bus in mint shape goes for 2.99 so, if you think you like the older style with some play wear then I would buy it.

ParkRNDL 01-23-2005, 01:08 AM ok i went back yesterday. my mind was playing tricks. there were some cars there for $3-$4 (some pretty nice Tomicas, actually) but he wanted $7.50 for this VW. I didn't want it THAT bad...

dipstick 01-23-2005, 08:51 PM I just pivked one of these up - almost looks like a tomica with a sliding side door right?
ParkRNDL 01-28-2005, 11:20 PM yeah, that's it. Two tone blue/white. I've since seen a couple on FleaBay, it seems they came with stickers...

If the TOmica are not F-series, are passenger cars, and are made in Japan, HOP ON THAT S**T!

mustangsmike 02-13-2005, 11:57 AM Three others.I stoped at a thrift store close to where i work and was going through some boxes of toys and found four zylmex buses. The one is like you said,it is blue and white with a sliding door on the side,it also says dragvan in black and red on the roof. The second one is a van,it's yellow with a port hole window on the side and it says straight arrow on it's sides. The third one is a brown van,it has a raised roof with large windows on the sides. And the last one is red, silver and black with long yellow side windows, both the front and the back look the same, almost like a future or space van. This one says super van on the side windows.IM not sure of the value of these either.i also checked on ebay to see.The good thing is i only paid 2.50 for all four of them and they are in great shape.I would consider trading them for the right thing.
Thanks,
Mustangmike

What exactly is an F-series, unless you're referring to Ford pickups?
hmmm... lemme see if I remember what all was there...
a silver Rolls Royce (the big freakin one from the 50s and 60s)
a Bugatti, maybe? dark color, black I think, with the light beige panel on the side...
a gullwing Mercedes?
a red Packard, maybe 1930s, with a rumble seat?
a couple trucks, like a Pepsi truck and a Subaru fire truck
a Toyota Land Cruisery-Jeepy looking thing
they also had the blue mid 70's Sedan de Ville in nice shape, but I grabbed that bad boy on my first visit... :D
They were all kinda neat-looking, but I was kinda trying to save the hobby budget for slot cars. Also, I don't remember if these were all in the $3-$4 range... some may have been higher. Now ya got me thinking I might go back AGAIN...
also, he DID have a pair of Lionel HO scale slot cars, a Mercedes and a Vette. Dangit, now I GOTTA go back.
EDIT: Also located a couple other Tomicas, a lime green 911 and a big blue 1970s Mercedes sedan, at another antique store... but they want $8 each and I don't like them THAT much... they've been sitting, they'll be there for a while, I bet...

Y'know, somewhere in one of the boxes in the Sanctuary cave I have a Corvette, still on the card, that I think might be one of the Zyl-type cars. I'll have to go digging one of these days.

F-Series Tomica are the Foreign cars. Remember 'Foreign' to the Japanese are any non-Japanese cars. Sounds like most of the Tomicas you found were F-Series except the Land Cruiser and the Fire Truck. The Land Cruisers are pretty collectable. As Jeff said, any made-in-Japan Tomicas that are Japanese cars (sedans, sports cars) are generally the most collectable.
RacerJoe 03-08-2005, 01:28 AM This subject is kind of interesting, I picked up a Tomica made in Japan Red Rolls Royce Phantom VI and a Made in Japan Silver Cadillac Seville over the weekend at a car show. It seems every once in awhile I find them cheap to, the opening doors and the rather odd castings that I haven't seen done before intrigue me. Along with those I also got a - a.j foyt Indy al unser for a buck. All the tires are the but it has some nicks out of it and the motor is missing. I thought it was worth it, at that price- it still has the number 2 decal on it to. I'm a sucker for old stuff at bargain prices :)
