View Full Version : Diecast storage options?
ruckapitbridge 01-18-2005, 12:01 PM I have seen collectors use plastic storage bins that kind of look like tackle boxes. I am in need of some way to store my loose diecast. Does anyone here know what I am talking about and how I can obtain them? I have googled my computer to death and can't find them online or in online diecast shops. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Travis
Lpgeoteacher 01-18-2005, 12:32 PM Wal-mart sells the semi transparent plastic cases. They have room on both sides and I think can hold about 36-48 cars. Look in the toy dept near the diecast. Hope this helps.
StreetFreak 01-18-2005, 12:36 PM Hey Travis...
If the cars you would like to store are 1:64 scale, Walmart sells plastic storage display totes for 1:64 diecast that hold about 36-48 cars each (18-24 per side). They are about 16 inches high x about 12 inches wide by 3-4 inches deep, have a hinged see thru door on each side of the tote with a molded in handle at the top of tote case. I believe they are between $6-$9 per case. They are nice for the price and stack side by side well. They even hold the 1:64 Muscle Machines.
I'm away fromt home right now, but can e-mail you a pic, or post one here this weekend of these cases when I get home, if you like?
StreetFreak 01-18-2005, 12:47 PM Hey Lpgeoteacher...SORRY to steal your thunder!
We must have been trying to help Travis out at about the same time and with the same idea! LOL
ruckapitbridge 01-18-2005, 01:15 PM Hey, thanks guys for the quick reply. Either i have missed them at the wallyworld or they dont' carry them around here. But that is exactly what I am looking for. I will keep checking and thanks again.
StreetFreak 01-18-2005, 02:04 PM Travis...
Every Walmart I've been to has those cases, BUT it's just a matter of where each place hides them. Sometimes they are near the model section, sometimes on the bottom shelf or on very top shelves of Diecast and Toy Carar type section, and even in between the toys. Just ask the toy personnel and they will direct you to them.
LOTS of LUCK!
Bugzy 01-18-2005, 05:21 PM I have a few Hotwheels cases for my loose 1/64 diecast collection...some of these cases hold 100...most of my older Matchbox cases hold about 48....kinda basket like inside/sectioned per car...noticed at Christmas that Walmart had some of the Hotwheels cases in stock...
ruckapitbridge 01-19-2005, 12:58 AM yea i tried a local wallworld tonite but no luck. They were pulling out stock so maybe tomorrow i will have better luck. thanks everyone!!!
Fast Eddie 01-20-2005, 02:21 AM I haven't seen any of those cases in a year at walmarts. Does any other retailer sell them?
DaleFan 01-20-2005, 09:29 AM Those cases are called Garages. They have 24 cells per side (48 cells total). PLano plastics make them. I think they recently have become part of the Kid Connection product line in Wal Marts. They are $4.88 each if you can find them.

where you located? I have been to 5 wallies areound here and none carry them. Even as kid connection. I would like to buy about 10 of them for my collection. I am moving soon and the loose cars need to be boxed safely.
thanks!!
DaleFan 01-20-2005, 09:36 PM Go to the store manager with the following information and ask him to order some for you. Kid Connection Car Garage. 48 bays Item# 5315-01 SKU 531500 #921156
F.Y.I. having already moved using these items. A helpful tip. You need to shrink wrap these together either as pairs or in threes. Why ? BEcause the hinges and the connections are very fragile and don't like to be bumped against hard objects. The lids can spring open also. Especially in COLD weather. I would suggest covering the LONG sides with bubble wrap then using the shrink wrap around the bubble wrap. It is a real pain to replace just the opening doors on these. Even though you may have to buy the shrink wrap and bubble wrap at STaples or OFfice Depot, you can use it to ship things with or the store other fragile items. I also use 1" thick foam to line each CELL to prevent the cars from moving around or flipping over. Especially convertibles or ones with hoods that come off.
ruckapitbridge 01-21-2005, 01:49 AM Hey thanks Dalefan. I went to a couple more wallys today with no luck and was getting bummed out. I will have to check into ordering them. thanks again!!
