lets talk rules racers what rules would you like to see in spec?

fixed gear ratio?

what gears to use?

should we go back to spec tires?

4 minutes or 5 minute races ?

Let's keep our current rules but limit the gear ratio. Not sure what that would be. It needs to be something we should be able to tech easily.

I agree eugene. since most everyone but me was useing a 100 spur lets go with 100t spur 31, 32 or a 33t pinion. or do you think we should gear down farther?

I don't know....I was still using 78 spur (48pitch). I just switch to a 108 but haven't tried it yet.

Well so far there are 4 that I know of. mike said he wanted to race spec. tell him I will sell him some batteries cheap since we will have a fixed gear ratio batteries won't mean that much. so if you and him race that will make 6. I havn't heard from steve p. or jason if they are going to race spec. also havn't heard steve pearce or chris randall.

That gear ratio is a little to much (38 39 40 a 100 spur) it bogs down the motor and burns the comm your talking a 2.6 to a 2.5 gear ratio.

as far as the tires are you talking about specing what colors to run say only puple on the front and only pink on the rears?

yah but the idea behind it is to put all the cars on the same brand/ compound tire like they do in nascar.

there lies the problem with this class right now trinity has there spec backs on back order and the have been for awhile. so you have to run used stuff. I know that they allow you to run a differnet battery that you can buy in the store. if you want my 2 cents it is a spec class which means that for the most part everybody should have the same stuff which under current rules it is only the motor and that is it. i think that the class should go back to it's roots where everybody has to run the same tire, motor, battery, and maybe even the same body.

I try to stay away from touring because i can not seem to keep me car whole....i had to fix it every race...so to me thats no fun..maybe its the whole tc3 thing...

I bought one of the 1500 from HobbyWorld and used it 2 weeks ago. It was alright but I had to good of a motor and wrong gears. I started out the fastest and ended up the slowest.

I have been beaten many times with those 1500 packs. by tom by goerge by steve padono. they work very well.

Dave- The 2 different batts are an "emergency substitute",just for HW only-since the 1600's are rarely in stock anywhere. I managed to get 2 new ones from Dan before Christmas. (NO,THEY'RE NOT FOR SALE,GUYS-SO DON'T EVEN ASK ME! LOL) Like I said in Stoney's post reply above,the speed is in the car & how you drive the corners-just like any other class. Yes,there's an advantage,but if you tune the car & work on your driving,you'll be fast w/any battery pack. I,too,have been the hunter & the hunted w/the 1500's. A little weak,but not bad for now-until the 1600 packs are plentiful,again.

I wonder how those T-Spec drivers around the country are doing w/their cars??? Might be where all those 1600's are going to-in the T-Spec touring kits??

George i think we are using a fix spur and 100t 64p if im not mistaken....Stoney lets make the rules on if the gears are going to be fixed or not becuase i wanna get my stuff in before the point series race starts......this next saturday ill do stock, but not spec becuase i am ordering the spur gear and pinion gears as soon as i know the rules.

Ok it looks like everyone is in agreement on the fixed gear so the only rule change is fixed gearing at 64 pitch 100 tooth spur and a 31,32 or a 33 tooth pinion.we will make the final vote saturday at the race.

Also,seeing that this Sat's race is a non-points race,I'll be strapping in 3300 4-cell packs for testing purposes. With the very limited availability of the Spec 1600 packs (and some understandable nervousness of using a 1500 or lower mAh pack),I just wanna see if this would be a viable option or not. I'm sure it's gonna be fast,but if I could get the gearing down to match everybody else's speeds during practice,then race w/it,it might be a possible avenue to look at.
My thinking is:

start out in Spec with 4-cell 3300's
race in Spec w/the 4-cell packs until you are confident (and competent) enough to move up to a different class
race in different class (stock,19t,etc) and not have to buy batteries for the next class. Or chassis,tires,bodies,etc,for that matter! Just buy the required motor & you already have all the rest of the stuff to go race in stock,19t,etc. And,you'll already know how to wrench on your chassis because you've went through the driving & chassis learning/breaking/fixing curve in Spec.
In the longrun/big picture,THAT would be a cheaper way to race & move up,IMO.

yes every thing stays the same exept the fixed gearing. I'm glad to see you are going to race with us george and I like your idea with the 4 cell packs.

I think that running 3300 packs is a wonderful idea. they are cheap enough and last twice as long as the nicad and take a shat load of abuse. the only problem is if you go to 3300's then you'll have to change the rules back to a spec tire (rc4less).

what I would like to see in a spec class

any chassis
spec tires rc4less purple front pink rear
any gp3300 battery
Spec motor with finishline f brush and red springs
body must be cut on the line and leave back in.
spur gear rule must run a 100 spur any pinion.


I think that if you go to 3300's without changing other rules to make things more spec ( everybody is running the same stuff) then you mine as well just drop the class all together and run 4 cell stock. because lets face it 90% of the stock guys are running monster motors. that sounds pretty spec to me. so basically you want to run 4 cell stock but make everybody use that crappy spec motor. I don't see the point. if you are going to do that then make everybody run the purple endbell monsters with the f brush. I know you can get those motors pretty cheap. Call is sportsman stock. then they don't even need to buy a motor to run stock.

lets face it guys the concept of spec is to elminate the equipment and make it all about driver. well you guys have change the rules so much that it is all about equipment now. with the way trinity puts everything on back order it is getting harder and harder to get stuff.
