So, I'm listening to this newscaster that's saying in CT. (where we live) the government wants to pass a bill forcing local theaters to post the show times according to the time the actual movie starts, not the previews. It would seem that there's a small section of folks who are annoyed by the blatant attempt to make them want to see these upcoming films. The nerve! IMHO, there's been plenty of films we I've PREFERED the trailer to the actual movie I was there to see. So, I was just wondering what you guys think of this subject.

I think the bill is directed more toward commercials than it is previews. I'm all for it myself.

Zor,

I'm tellin ya man, this station that I was watching interviewed a few people on the street and these "average folks" were actually saying things like, "I had to sit through 20 min of commercials for OTHER MOVIES, and I think that's a bit much." Now I grant you, these folks didn't really seem like rthey would be into the kind of films that some of us here might go into the theater, JUST TO SEE THE TRAILER OF.

With what a night out at the movies costs for two people, including the exorbitant price for snacks, I think one could argue that the threshold has been passed a while ago for paying patrons to insist they not be held captive to ever an expanding sales pitch. I'm okay if the government wants to help keep my time from being wasted.

I'm in favor of the principle but I'm opposed to the law.

Posting the start time of the actual movie is the right and decent thing to do.

But we can't call on the government to bail us out every time we get pissed off about something. There are some things that should be dealt with at the consumer level between cutomers and service providers. People have to learn to excercise some power on their own without depending on legislatures to fix minor annoyances.

I don't need or want the government's "help" to keep my time from being wasted. I'm quite capable of doing that myself. I'd prefer it if the folks I send to the capitol would concern themselves with fixing potholes and balancing the budget.

I consider commercials at movie theaters to be cinematic "potholes".

I rather like movie trailers. Without them I would waste time and money to see a piece of junk.

No, we have referendum and local ordinace proposals all the time. Most never pass. Ya put it out there, people vote on it - it goes or it doesn't. Easy.

I'd rather see a bill that bans actual commercials. Since we've paid to see the show, I find commercials kind of an insult.

but I would indeed like to know the "real" start time. If I can hit the restroom JUST before the movie starts, maybe I can make it all the way thru without feeling like I'm gonna burst like a damn. :D
