Coming in 2005!

No absolute street date given, yet. But, here is the cover art:

This will be an absolute must-have!

I sincerely hope it has the "alternate cut" version included.

Excellent!

Ia there any information on what extras this DVD may have over the current DVD?

Yeah, a little "official" info would be nice. The digitalbits has had this cover on their site for almost a year now (along with the original King Kong). It used to say "Street Date: 2004/TBD/TBA (Some Artwork Not Official)". Now it says "Street Date: 2005/TBD/TBA (Some Artwork Not Official)". DeepDiscount and Amazon show nothing about any new issue of Forbidden Planet.

Originally, I remember hearing it was slated for a July 2004 release date. When the date approached, there was nothing. No updates, changes or postponements. Just nothing.

I hope that this will truly be realized for sure this year.

BTW, the "alternate cut" was a cut of the film that included a somewhat different arrangement of scenes, longer cuts of familiar scenes, and different pacing. It was last seen, I believe, in the 1970's.

Wasn't there a "Saturday matinee" version prepared at one time? I remember reading years ago a letter in (I think) Starlog, about someone seeing a version which eliminated the nude swimming scene. Or perhaps changed it so she was wearing a white bathing suit. The explanation was that this was a version prepared for younger audiences. Is this the same as the "alternate cut" version?

The most famous cut sequence is one where Altaira first tells our fearless captain that she loves him and it's following scene where Morbius gives her an ultimatum to choose the captain or a life with him.

IIRC, it was cut before the films release to improve the pacing, even though it explains why the ID monster is after her too at the climax.

Nice try, but not this time! I'm no sucker! I'm no chump! I'm no patsy! I REFUSE to play Charlie Brown to this particular incarnation of Lucy's football! I'll believe a Special Edition of "Forbidden Planet" is in the works after I've watched it! Same goes for the f#$*ing Special Edition of "Blade Runner"!

What was that release date again?

I feel your pain. That SE of "Blade Runner" has been "coming soon" since I bought my first DVD player.

The special edition must be out soon, as here in England the regular version is just about to come out!
