I have a 5.5 hp honda snowblower....last year it started blowing oil out through the exhaust(just a little bit)...it made it run rough.....I called the dealer who suggested I had put too much oil in the crankcase and suggested I go and check it.

When I opened the hole to check the oil level......gas flowed out.....the tank was empty.

So, what do you guys think is wrong......I am leaning to the needle valve being stuck open and the gas drained into the crankcase....someone suggested I might have a hole in the piston or the rings are shot.

Can anyone give me some advice?

thanks

Tom

....someone suggested I might have a hole in the piston or the rings are shot. i wouldnt think so ,, sounds like it needs a needle valve or might just be stuck and cleaned real good but if i went as far as to clean the carb i would put a new needle valve in it and a bowl gasket

Sounds to me like your float sprung a leak and sank to the bottom of the bowl. Honda tends to use plastic floats which can split right along the seam in the middle of the float. When this happens, the float fills up with gasoline and sinks to the bottom of the bowl.

You have suffered a leaky float needle. You can try removein carb bowl and clean everything. also rotate the needle as it hangs on the float, this will usually work. reassemble carb and test for leaking.
