Is there going ot be a Mars series this year? I am hearing that there will only be 2 tracks availible to host the series this (2005) year. If Mars series is happening you guys need to trey to get Redline racing as a host since they have a very nice track for this year.....

I am sure that it will be fine, even if all they had was litchfield and vicksburg I would still run the mars.

yeah there has been talk of no more vicksburg for a couple of years, I think at one time the dogs even looked at moving the track. I have a hard time believing that they would let vicksburg die like that.

Hey guys!! Chad here using Nolans name.. Ed, I sent Keith a pm about the Mars series. I have been talking to peeps about possibly holding a Mars series at WOOR and most of them if not all say WOOR would be a great addition to Mars. So I'm going to try to talk to the right people to get WOOR on the series.

At the end of the summer the Vicksburg track was still a go. But there may be some other "race" plans there too, just have to wait for the Dogs to speak up.

WOOF!
Vicksurg is alive and well for 2005. We will be running races as normal. We might even do something a little bit different (point series?). As for MARS, they meet in late Feb to set the schedule. Look for the VORR schedule to come out a few days after the Daytona 500.

Well I can say that the Jones track is planning on staying with MARS. I raced with them at this weekends indoor dirt race in Ohio, CRCRC's Winter Midwest race. They have plans for track changes that sound great and should make it an even better track. So looking at it we have Litchfield, Voor and Jones with Lansing and WOOR to confirm but likely. All of which are built and capable of running races.

Well said Fish, I can't wait for this year looks like the series is in place to be as strong as it ever was.

Someone needs to give Noony some info as to how or who to talk to about getting a race. They are a 2 year established track now and have upgraded to an awesome outdoor track this year and have way more than enough credibility to host a race.

What you need to do is put together some sort of presentation. Include photos or plans of the track, who will be running it, info on the location (parking, zoning, whatever) and that kind of stuff. Write up a short bit that indicates some history of the club, the experience of those intending to run the event, local support or recommendation from a hobby shop, etc... Think of it as a resume for your facility. Don't give up on it. It just takes more than word-of-mouth and a few phone calls.

Noony - Listen to Kevindog!! along with the points he stated, you also need to let MARS know if camping is allowed, power is available, any time restrictions on noise (some generators are loud!), Lighting on the track, Restroom facilities, etc. You gotta pump it up! Good luck! Getting them to award a race way out on Michigans East coast would be cool.

in order for REDLINE RACING to hold a mars race everyone will have to carry a roar membership. it is for liability reasons because we are located inside a county park. roar is mandatory no roar no race. this is the rules of the park.

psycho02
01-28-2005, 12:18 PM
I don't have a problem with roar memberships, Just like I did'nt have a problem with mars requiring them last year. It's not that much money for the membership. There were alot of people that complained about having to have the membership last year, but it's only 35 bucks really, how many of us will spend that in one trip to the hobbyshop.

I think it would be good for an east side track or two to get a race. I remember when I started on the mars there were 2 east side tracks 1 middle track and 2 west side tracks. and I think that was perfect. It would be nice if it could go back to that.

Any information about this year? I know the meeting is usually this month. Need to know what weekends to get vacation for and for scheduling.

I agree we should let the brushless in for the mod classes. IT might help grow that class more.

Question to the 4WD guys, what tires did you run at the various tracks last year?

josh short

ifmar studs or i made up step pins for the front and ran step pin on all four corners

Here are the results of last weekend's MARS meeting.

#1- We will be allowing personal transponders this season. No more magnetic cards.

#2- Race Dates
May 14th -Litchfield
June 4th- Jones
July 16th- Lansing
August 13th- Vicksburg
September 17th- TBD, there are a few tracks that have offered but still no formal applications.

#3- Classes remain the same- Masters Truck, Stock & Modified Buggy, Stock and Modified, and 4WD.

#4- Race fees remain the same.

#5- ROAR membership is still required

#6- Handout will be P2K2 once again. Price TBD due to Roar raising retail on stock motors to $46.

#7- 50/50 drawing will be replaced by a vehicle raffle.

#8- Vehicles will be weighed before and after races as per ROAR rules.

#9- Spektrum system legal for use in all radios.

If there are anymore questions, I will try to answer them to the best of my ability.

Ken,
Moose, Paul Sean and I are all running Academy SB's. Shaft drive and no belts to snap and no high $ conversion. I'm sure we will stress test them well enough. Paul and Sean are running them up at Al's this weekend. Moose is building his and mine is on order.

I guess I will be the odd man out then as I am running a xxx4 at least until I can find a suitable xx4 worlds edition to run. Front tires are easy for the mars though at Litchfield Ifmar studs, and vicksburg and lansing probably go with a mini pin type like ifmar pins or proline fuzzies. and then just use the same tire in the rear as you would for a 2 wheel buggy and your set.

 Wow! I was thinking of running a stock class, but I might as well just run all mods. Might be cheaper to lose stock class and run 19 turns.

The P2K2 price should stay $25, but we just want to be sure on the price.

Nick,

I would hope that everyone knows that ROAR club races do not have to follow ROAR class rules to the T. MARS could allow brushless to run in the mod class with no problem from ROAR... and maybe even show ROAR that this is feasable to do for off-road.

NTwigs
02-21-2005, 09:26 PM
Hank, I think there is a place for the brushless system in the Modified class. From my experiences the Novak 5800 system runs a lot like a 19T. The crew hasn't seen what they can do, and at this point aren't willing to change that. I feel getting them to allow personals this year is a HUGE step for MARS. And you never know, there might be a chance they will be allowed to compete before the season starts. They were asking alot of questions about brushless motors at the meeting.

BTW- I screwed up and listed the wrong date for Vicksburg. It's supposed to be August 13th. I'll make the change.

hankster

I ran one a few times last year and in off-road I would compare them to about 14T. But as we know, traction, setup and driving is far more important then power in off-road. The big plus is that there is really no motor maint... was thinking of running that as a 3rd class because it would be so easy to run.

Yes, I was glad to see that personals will be allowed this year... big step in the right direction.
