how do i know what to look for in the numbers on the pro dynoed motors the rpm? the eff? torque ?. what makes the difference when i'm picking one from the other?..i'm trying to be competitive with the big dogs at the track

well it depends if your running offroad and / or onroad. secondly, to be competative, you have to have learn to drive, find a good line, and practice. watch the big dogs, and see what makes them fast. you can even ask them to give you pointers if you feel you're lacking in some aspect of being as fast as them
it's not always about the gear, but how well you can conquer the course.
of course, if the big dogs have matched batteries, and you dont, that might make a small difference too.
but to answer your question, torque for offroad, rpm for onroad, and a good combination of both depending on size of track etc.
