Latest news:
It is with the deepest regret that we report that Kelly departed this world peacefully in his sleep at 4:46 a.m. January 2, 2005.

Will Eisner passed away on January 3rd, 2005 at the age of 87 following quadruple bypass heart surgery.

Not a great way to start the year, folks.
These two illustrators had massive impact on the imagery of sci fi and how we read and create comics in the modern era. I was lucky enough to meet both of them personally (Kelly on several occasions) and let them know I appreciated their work.
Let's hope the "streak" ends here.

Hear, hear.
Enough of this dying stuff!
They have both had such an impact on popular culture. This is a great loss.

Kelly was a regular at a convention I worked at (RoVaCon) and he and his first wife, Polly, were two of the best people you could ever hope to know. Unfortunately, I lost contact with him when he remarried after Polly's death and moved to the west coast.

From Mad Magazine (he didn't invent Alfred E. Newman, contrary to popular legend, but he did many popular paintings of him) to Queen's "News of the World" album cover (based on his original painting for "Farewell to the Master"), to the most beautiful Sf-Deco women and spacescapes ever done, Kelly pretty much defined SF Art for my generation.

He'll be missed.

Both incredibly influential artists.

There was no comparison between Eisner's Spirit of the 40s and his contemporaries.

I concur with the comments about FKF.

True Masters and legends in their fields.

Now they'll be able to experience their incredible visions first hand - Bon Voyage!

I had seen the article about Freas but had no idea Eisner had passed. I loved Eisner's work. What an incredibly talented man. He drew some of the sexiest looking women in comics. His blend of humor and action in the Spirit is unmatched. He had a real knack for storytelling.
Man! I'm seriously bummed by this news.

God's speed Frank and Will. Two very talented gentlemen who will be very much missed by this fan.

While working at Streamline Pictures I was fortunate to meet and work with Kelly and his wonderful wife Laura on a project to make some of Kelly's images into 3D art.I remember with fondness the time spent at their home, enjoying the world of Science Fiction.

Here's hoping Frazetta is taking plenty of vitamin C and getting enough rest...
