It appears someone in Colorado found the new 2016 Garage series at their local Wal-Mart. Here are the cars in the set. A picture is starting to float around with some of the cars in it.
I saw some of the pictures on HWC.
The wheels aren't Real Riders unfortunately, but at least the castings look pretty good.
The line up is better than average I think.
If these are taking the place of the "Road Tripping" series then I think the price point might be $2.14 which is what they are going for.
For me I think I'll spring for them.
At my local Wal-Mart the Stars and Stripes series came and went, the pegs were never replenished.
Meanwhile at another location, a lot of the castings still are on the pegs.
It comes down to location a lot of times.
Yup....I'm my area I saw a total of about 4 in as many stores. Saw the mustang twice hanging by its lonesome......Michigan gets hit pretty hard in all quarters by hoarders....any flavor of the month is almost always gone in am instant and stays gone.....I had to buy the leap year car off eBay.....never saw one at the several walmarta, kmarts etc. In my area....even have a friend who hits several on his way to and back from work and he never saw those....yet collectors in other states claimed to see that one I'm bunches....
what.. quite the fail.
No RR's
these are just mainline cars... some look like repackaged ones... didn't they already put out that Challenger in pink and the 69 Vette in yellow with black stripes?
The yellow 69 Vette had chrome 5sp and the tampos are a bit different.
The Challenger, I don't recall right off the bat, I'll have to look at what I have later tonight.
So you're saying Mattel would repackage castings? (I am being sarcastic) LOL
I looked and looked for this pink '71 and never found it. This is the first time I've ever seen it in the wild. Thanks for posting the pic and confirming to me its existence.
Usually the $2.14 priced premium set buys complex graphics like 4- or even 5-color tampos and a theme. This includes the music themed cars, Road Trippin', and the Stars & Stripes. While I like the models chosen for this "Garage" set, it's not clear that they are "premium" cars.
Personally I would not consider these a "premium" line.
A Premium line to me would be like the latest Star Trek-metal/metal with Real Riders.
I guess we'll see once they get to our respective Wal-Marts.
I grabbed the Camaro and Cadillac. The wagon is the only other one I wanted, but the tampos were wayyyyyyy off on the 1 they had in my local store. The search continues...
The package art is actually better than the HW itself. Noticed a box of them sitting on a pallet last night and took a peek. I passed on them, for .97 cents a couple probably come home with me but not for 2.14
I picked up 2 of the brown wagons. I left one as is, but on the other one I used carb cleaner to remove the HW logo, or, at least I tried. The brown paint is very this and left a lighter brown area where the tampo was. My advice...leave the tampos on this wagon alone.
This is how most of the youtube "how to" videos are set up to work. Where you refill the used up marker bodies with acetone. I found them to be used straight out of the package as easier and more effective. No fumes. No mess essentially.
I actually use the new dry erase markers as they come out of the package.
I buy mine mainly at walmart, but an office supply store or dollar store has them as well. I have broad tip, fine and extra fine versions now. I also have different colors that I use on different body colors, but it doesnt seem to have made a difference - except the one white body as above.
I primarily use tissues to wipe off each swipe, but paper towels work as well. It takes from 6 to 10 individual swipe and then wipe - to remove most tampos. Extra swipes (or extra rubbing with the marker tip) did not seem to make a difference in the removal process for me.
Premium castings with clear coats and paint tampos take longer, but work the same way. Good luck!
Well, since (I think) I have every variation of the '70 Chevelle wagon issued to date I guess I'll have to find one of these too. As for the others, I'll wait to see them in person. Mainline-quality cars with different decos and fancy-schmancy card art generally aren't worth a premium to me. If they were metal/metal or on Real Riders I wouldn't object as much.
I found them at my local Wal-Mart on Wednesday.
They only got in 1 case (1 set of cars), I bought the Purple Passion and the Mustang.
I went back last night to get one or two more and they were all gone!
Awesome finds congrats. I haven't seen these yet at any of my Walmart stores.
