Weighted Tjet pick up shoes

As a kid I would fill the front part of my Tjet pick up shoes with solder to help them hold the track better. This way the weight was down low to help the Tjet corner better. I always thought this was a better choice that the weighted front end , I never though they looked right. Also never liked the front tires stickick out past the front fenders lips.

Although the weighted/wider front end doesn't look as good, the improved handling is an acceptable trade off for me.

You could try bending the shoe over the "locating pin" (or whatever you call it) on the front of the chassis to limit the downward travel, allowing stiffer springs without popping the car out of the slot. Works on my brass panned cars, never tried it on a stock chassis (don't have any!).

limiting pick up shoe travel is a good way to enhance any slot cars performance

I am just curious --- has anyone ever stuck magnets on the back side of the pickup shoes and removed the pickup shoe springs?

you know i've had good results just using the autoworld repop, xtraction chassis shoe springs and putting them on my Tjets. they are half height and about the same tension.
it drops the front end and keeps deslots down on curve apexes. also the lower ride height keeps the shoes lasting longer too.
