Shipping casualties

So I won a total of 17 Auto World cars from a seller on Ebay. She didn't combine shipping but it wasn't a big deal since the prices ended up being OK even with shipping figured in. Best of all, she didn't realize that one of the cars was a 1971 Mustang Mach 1 Ultra Red (the one I wanted most) and a red GT40 to replace the one I have with a funky tire. Long story short, she crammed them all in a box that was too small to fit the cars properly and didn't use a single piece of packing material. No bubble wrap, no peanuts, zilch. They were squashed in there so tightly that cards were mangled, display cases were cracked and the two cars that I was excited about were the only two that popped out of line in the packages. Not a huge deal if I eventually open them up, but for the time being my stuff is sealed. In the grand scheme of things, not a life or death matter, but it's funny how sometimes the universe hates you for a day. Haha!

Yeah, I asked for a 41% refund since 41% of the cars were damaged. I thought that was a fair resolution. She's not responding, so Ebay will have to get involved. I may end up getting a complete refund. We'll see. Once in a while you encounter a turd online, still a very small percentage of transactions.

That really sucks but things like this happen. Luckily it was just the blister packs and cases that got damaged and not the cars. I am a very new diecast car collector and I take most of my cars out of the blister packs for glamour photos. I rarely buy two of the same car either unless I really like the car or it's hard to find.

When you say "She didnt combine shipping", does that mean you were charged for each
individual car as if they were all shipped separately?

Also curious if the cars were auctions or buy it nows.

At any rate it sounds like a bum deal from your position for sure, especially if you were
taxed to the max on shipping and the seller made a huge profit from it.

They obviously did not see any value in the packages or simply didnt care.

There were 17 cars in total from 4 standard auctions. When checking out, it said that the seller had turned off combined shipping for the auctions, so the shipping charge ended up being about $31. I wasn't upset at that point because it was still a steal for all those sealed Auto World cars. They were common older releases with the exception of the Ultra Red, but 10 of those would be new to my collection, so it was a win regardless. I'm guessing that the seller got salty that she didn't get more, so she half-assed the deal. She waited 9 days to ship the package and didn't bother providing a tracking number to boot. Just an annoying experience. What are the odds that the two cars I was most looking forward to were the ones that came loose? Kind of funny in a weird way...

Atlas, could you share the sellers username on I assume ebay? We like to share bad experiences with bad sellers with others here at HT. I have over 5,500 positive feedback from sellers and only 1 or 2 sellers that I had to report for crap stuff like you mentioned.

Sorry you had to go through that but, you might want to mention to the seller you are not only reporting her to ebay but also the largest world wide hobby forum on the planet, see if that gets you a better refund!! Keep us posted buddy!

Her Ebay user name is ameliag1009. It looks like she's new to selling, but has bought a lot of stuff in the past. Naturally, she hasn't responded, but Ebay will step in tomorrow to see what's up. Ebay will most likely issue a refund and have me ship the cars back, which is a shame because I wanted some of those, but I don't mind sending her back the damaged goods on principle...

Hold on there Atlas, I assume this isn't your first rodeo on ebay. Like I said use the leverage you have in your favor, she doesn't want strikes against her as a new seller. If you are happy with the cars for the most part, after ebay steps in send another message asking for a partial refund and let you keep the cars (tell her the cards were important to be in the shape they were pictured in the auction), say you could leave positive feedback with a notation of poor packing and it was resovled in a professional manner.

Or, get your refund, stick it to her with poor feedback and keep looking for the ones you want, there will be more, they aren't that rare yet.

Thanks for providing her username, we'll steer clear of this seller!!!

A partial refund and getting to keep the cars would be the preferred outcome for me. She won't respond to my messages, and if she doesn't respond to Ebay either they'll most likely do the ship back and refund thing. I wouldn't leave her negative feedback and destroy her rating out of spite because there's a possibility that something catastrophic may have happened in her life, and that of course is bigger than some dude getting butt-hurt over some toy cars. I'm sure I can find them again without too much effort. I'll be OK with whatever happens.

Nothing new from her since. There was one additional lot of Auto World cars that she was selling at the same time that I passed on, but no feedback from the buyer on that deal yet. Ebay got back to me today and ruled in my favor. Unfortunately, as expected, they want me to ship everything back, no partial refund. I might just keep the cars since the price was right anyway. Some will go into my collection, some I can sell or trade and whatever's left I can give away or donate. As much as I don't like crap sellers getting away with nonsense, I think this is a more positive alternative than simply returning them out of spite. Of course, the seller doesn't need to know that, I'll keep harassing her for a partial refund. Maybe if I stress the fact that it will be her less expensive option, she'll cave and finally respond. We'll see what happens.
