Hello from new member

Hi everyone. Just joined the hobby talk forum today. I'm currently building a 737ng cockpit. At the moment I am working on a landing gear mechanism. As far as building goes, I'm am pretty much comfortable in that area. However , in the electronics area I am not good at all and I need help to design a simple working circuit using a 555 timer or maybe two.

How the landing gear works:

The Up position will be easy. (I think) The timer will light 3 green leds for 12 seconds, then go out. Should be simple enough for me to figure out.

The down position is where I dont know how to proceed.
When the lever contacts the gear down switch, it will activate the timer and light 3 red leds for 12 seconds, then the red leds go out and 3 green light steady until the switch is released. I will be using sub micro switches.

The 12 second delay is the time it takes for gear down and lock, or gear up and stowed on the 737NG. (I think it's closer to 10 or 11 seconds, but I'm going a wee bit longer)

I would really appreciate if someone could help me to design a simple circuit that would achieve what I would like to do with my gear lever.

All the best to everyone and hope the new year treats you well,

Ed Burton

Hi Ed,

Have you thought about using a micro controller to do this?? Something like an easy to program Arduino would do the job very easily.
You could program in your delay times to the exact second (Or micro second) without having to fiddle around with resistor and capacitor values on a 555 (Or multiple 555s) as well as some CMOS gates to string it all together.
The micro controller could be used in other areas of your cockpit too.
