Vir Cotto has passed- RIP Stephen Furst

Well RATS!!!! I had just finished watching Babylon 5 on DVD, and enjoyed it so much I went back to the start of season 3 and started watching it again. One of my favorite moments is when Vir waves at the severed head of Mr. Morden up on the pike.

It's like being on B5 was a curse! This is awful.

I blame the agents and associates of the Shadows.

So sad to hear another B5 cast member pasting away. You have to go a little further back to that scene, as Vir told Mr. Morden what he wanted to do when he died and did just that. I remember that scene where Vir walks in, looked up and smiles and waved his hand at Morden's severed head and I was in stitches as he fulfilled his promise.

I mourn his passing as well. But consider: He's been fighting for a good long time. I seem to recall he appeared to be at Death's door like, what, 20 years ago? So, yeah, he managed to hang on a good long while.

I always remember him as Flounder from Animal House. "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son."

I also thought his nickname was the fish but the definition of flounder is perfect;
floun·der1
ˈfloundər/
verb
1. struggle or stagger helplessly or clumsily in water or mud.

2. struggle mentally; show or feel great confusion.

3. be in serious difficulty.

Mr. Morden had spent most of the show going from character to character asking what they truly wanted, what their heart desires most (some great insights were revealled through this). When he got to Vir:

Full quote:

Morden:
What do you want?

Vir Cotto:
I'd like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I would look up at your lifeless eyes and wave like this. [gives a mockingly cheerful finger waggle] Can you and your associates arrange this for me, Mr. Morden?

I think that was a wonderful defining moment for a character who started off as a comic foil and evolved into the ruler of the entire Centauri Republic

Vir, drunk from drinking all night because he had been the one to kill the Emperor was also very touching.
